The LSB Foundation is proud to support Des Moines Refugee Support (DMRS) and founder Alison Hoeman, whose grassroots efforts have grown into a powerful community movement. DMRS helps refugee families thrive by enrolling preschoolers, providing school transportation, and covering essentials like food, clothing, and hygiene items. Through the Bus Pass Program, students who live too close for school buses but too far to walk safely receive DART passes. DMRS also supports over 100 student-athletes by covering soccer fees, meals, and transportation, while encouraging strong academics and attendance. They fund summer camps, college scholarships, and women-led businesses at local farmers markets where refugee women sell homemade goods and keep all of the profits. Events like the Back to School Free Store, Spring Free Store, and Santa’s Ride provide school supplies, winter gear, and holiday cheer to hundreds of families. The LSB Foundation is proud to support Anawim Housing in their mission to provide safe, stable, and affordable housing across Iowa. Their work spans from property management and permanent supportive housing to the development of affordable housing through new construction, rehab, and preservation. 🏘️ Anawim’s impact in Polk County is significant, with over 990 individuals living in their affordable housing units. Their Permanent Supportive Housing program has served more than 445 people, with 94% remaining stably housed after one year. We are honored to contribute to Anawim’s continued success and help build stronger, more resilient communities together.
