The San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board has adopted a new NPDES permit that requires wastewater treatment plants to reduce nitrogen discharges by 40% from 2022 levels. ⏰ 🗓️ By April 1, 2025, wastewater treatment plants must submit preliminary compliance plans, making it essential to explore viable compliance solutions now. This significant regulatory shift will impact nearly three dozen facilities across the Bay Area, with compliance deadlines fast approaching. As Shahab Azizi, P.E. and Grecia Hernandez explore in their new blog post, achieving compliance will require significant investment, with studies estimating regionwide costs nearing $11 billion. The new permit, effective October 1, 2024, is a crucial step in protecting water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and economic activities connected to the Bay. Key Compliance Requirements: ➡️ Reduction Target: Facilities must achieve a 40% decrease in nitrogen discharge. ➡️ Compliance Timeline: Facilities must meet reduction targets within the specified regulatory timeframe. ➡️ Monitoring & Reporting: Enhanced monitoring and reporting measures will be implemented to track compliance. ➡️ Technology & Process Changes: Facilities may need to adopt advanced treatment technologies or optimize existing processes to meet the required standards. Wherever you are with your nutrient removal journey, Lincus is ready to work with every level of your organization to drive decisions that ultimately help optimize operations. Read more about Lincus can help guide you through options for optimizing nutrient removal, incentives and funding support, and tailored, cost-effective solutions: https://lnkd.in/gFts9EH4

Lincus is proud to announce a new California Energy Commission (CEC) project, in collaboration with National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Trane. This agreement will fund the development, performance evaluation, and pilot field demonstration of a packaged commercial heating ventilation and air conditioning unit that is powered internally through a direct current power bus. Native direct current (DC) power sources such as photovoltaic module (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) can directly power this heat pump HVAC unit, resulting in increased system efficiency compared to traditional HVAC units. This project, expected to last at least three years, was awarded in January and fully executed in February. With the information provided by Lincus’ work, the project will provide additional tools to support grid operations and advance grid resiliency efforts. We look forward to working with our partners and sharing the results!

  • Strategic Energy Management (SEM) is a valuable opportunity for organizations to fundamentally address their energy needs by understanding and documenting their systems and processes while implementing energy management activities. Different companies employ different philosophies when it comes to managing the energy they use to service their needs. Some may prioritize energy reduction, yet others will focus on greenhouse gas reductions from their energy use; others might have a different strategy to minimize their energy use during peak periods. From ISO 50001 to integrated demand side management, SEM covers a wide range of tools that support a long-term approach to energy efficiency. Read more from Sabarish Vinod about what SEM can do for an organization: https://lnkd.in/geqb7vhw #energyefficiency

  • Lincus is sharing the following message from Jorj Nofal and Hob Issa: Dear Esteemed Colleagues, Friends, and Customers, After countless projects, shared ventures, and the daily rhythm of collaboration in Lincus and Solaris, the time has arrived for Jorj Nofal and Hob Issa to bid adieu to our leadership roles as we enter the gentle pace of retirement. After Jorj and Caryn Nofal started Lincus more than 21 years ago, we are so proud of the men and women who have worked for our company and know they will always uphold the highest standard of excellence that we have striven to achieve. At the start of 2024, we turned the reins over to the next generation as we assumed our new advisory roles. Beginning 2025, as we retire fully from the company, we are confident that Yeshpal Gupta, Ph.D. (President), Fiela Vu (Vice President), Sabarish Vinod (Director), and many others will do an excellent job working with all of you as they continue to grow and move forward. We will both remain on the Lincus board to ensure our commitment to quality, technical excellence, innovation and customer service remain intact. There is so much more to do in energy efficiency, sustainability and climate change. Lincus is well positioned to lead our industry on these fronts and Jorj and Hob will be guiding these opportunities from their Board roles. In the spirit of genuine gratitude, we wish to thank our customers for almost 40 years of working together in the energy efficiency and sustainability fields. We also want to thank and acknowledge you, our colleagues, who have provided a foundation of consistent support and encouragement. We have faced challenges that fortified our resolve and celebrated successes that amplified our satisfaction with our work. As we take this step forward, we look back with fondness—and ahead with hope. Thank you for the privilege of working with our customers and with such dedicated partners. Here’s to the continuation of all your outstanding work in our industry, which we will observe with pride from afar. Warmest regards, Jorj Nofal and Hob Issa
