Congratulations to Star Thrower award winner, Sissy MacCuish. Sissy is a respiratory therapist at Mary Washington Hospital, and recently went above and beyond for a patient she’d worked with before. She knew he was capable of managing part of his own care, so she took the time to check in, offer encouragement, and make sure he had everything he needed to feel confident doing it again. When she noticed something small was missing that could help the patient feel more independent, she didn’t hesitate—she picked it up herself from the gift shop. That simple act made a big difference. It wasn’t just about the item—it was about showing the patient that someone believed in them. Sissy’s kindness, support, and belief in the patient’s abilities helped restore his confidence and independence. She made a real impact, and it was a beautiful reminder of how much compassion matters. Sissy, we're #MWHCproud you're on our team! You make a difference every day!

Congratulations to🌟 Star Thrower Award winner, Jay DeLoatch. Jay is a respiratory therapist at Stafford Hospital and was nominated by a grateful patient who'd been admitted with pneumonia. Jay responded immediately, conducting a thorough assessment, setting up a nebulizer and oxygen, and quickly communicating her findings to the nurse. Throughout the day, Jay remained a calm and reassuring presence. The patient, herself an ED nurse with 10 years of experience, said she "would be lucky to work with such an exceptional RT like Jay. Stafford Hospital and the community are lucky to have her." We completely agree, and we are #MWHCproud you're on our team! 💙
