About us

Mayo Clinic has expanded and changed in many ways, but our values remain true to the vision of our founders. Our primary value – The needs of the patient come first – guides our plans and decisions as we create the future of health care. Join us and you'll find a culture of teamwork, professionalism and mutual respect, and most importantly, a life-changing career. Mayo Clinic was founded in Rochester, Minnesota by brothers Dr. William James Mayo and Dr. Charles Horace Mayo. More than 100 years later, their vision continues to evolve around a single guiding value: "The needs of the patient come first." Today we are the largest integrated, not for-profit medical group practice in the world. We are recognized for high-quality patient care more than any other academic medical center in the nation. These endorsements are very gratifying, but also humbling. They remind us of the tradition that has been entrusted to each one of us, and the legacy of excellence that we uphold every day.

A new test in development at Mayo Clinic could help doctors diagnose valley fever faster, possibly at the first visit. Also known as coccidioidomycosis, valley fever is a lung infection caused by breathing in a fungus found in dry, dusty soil, especially in the Southwest. Many people have no symptoms, but in some cases, the infection can spread to the brain, bones, or spine and become life-threatening. • Feeling overwhelmed? Nature might be part of the remedy. A growing body of research—and personal experience—shows that spending time outdoors can reduce anxiety, improve focus and boost mood. “Making time for nature is important for us to maintain resiliency and promote self-care in a world that demands a lot from us,” says Jodie M. Smith, a Mayo Clinic nurse practitioner. https://mayocl.in/43smsYh Even a short walk outside can help your mind reset. When was the last time you unplugged and stepped into nature?

  • Congratulations to Karen, who recently received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! "Karen is truly one in a million. When my family member first met her, they were very sick and struggling with daily life after years of being active and healthy. From that first visit, Karen showed deep understanding and compassion. She never gave up, even when things got complicated. She helped guide my family member through a complex illness with steady support, whether it meant adjusting medications, offering new ways to manage symptoms, or simply being there to listen. When everyday tasks became difficult — like talking, walking, or even taking a pottery class — she helped find a way forward. With her help, my family member was able to give a speech at their daughter’s wedding, despite serious health challenges. She celebrated every small step of progress, gave comfort during setbacks, and always brought practical ideas with care and kindness. Karen's wisdom and belief in my family member's recovery made all the difference." Mayo Clinic is among over 5,000 healthcare organizations worldwide committed to the DAISY Award program. The DAISY Award is presented each month to an extraordinary nurse. If you know someone looking for a career in nursing, explore available opportunities today: https://mayocl.in/3SSk08A #Career #Nursing

  • Tamra brings more than clinical expertise to her role—she brings lived experience. As both a nurse and the mother of a son diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Tamra understands the fear, anxiety, and uncertainty patients face. Now, she’s the reassuring voice on the other end of the patient portal—responding quickly, offering support, and guiding families through treatment with empathy and insight. “This truly is my calling,” she says. “I’m so lucky to play even a small part in coordinating leukemia care.” Has a nurse positively impacted your life?
