Check out development of a new 500 kW solar asset in Lakewood, CO! The City of Lakewood selected McKinstry in 2024 as it’s renewable energy partner to design, engineer and build a rooftop and parking-canopy solar photovoltaic system at the Charles Whitlock Recreation Center that is slated to offset 100 % of the facility’s electricity use. The roughly 500 kW system will include both rooftop arrays and shaded solar canopies over the parking area, delivering operational savings and shaded vehicle parking. As part of Lakewood’s broader municipal renewable energy strategy, this key project marks the first on-site renewable energy project that will be owned by the City.

The project recently reached substantial completion and our team gathered for a toast to mark this achievement. We even had the chance to try out a Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer during the event, making the celebration especially memorable ✈️ We’re handing over the keys to the Alaska teams who will take the next few months to prepare for full operation. In honor of National LED Light Day, we’re excited to share our work with the City of Glendale AZ. Together, we upgraded more than 4,700 light fixtures across nine facilities, creating brighter, safer and more efficient spaces for the community. The project is expected to save the city more than $113,000 each year, with smart lighting controls and nearly $47,000 in captured incentives adding even more value. The best part?
