The annual "It's a Breast Thing" event was a success, and we are proud to share that the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing took first place, and MSU Health Care at McLaren Greater Lansing's Breast Imaging Center took second place in the bra decorating contest. Combined, our two teams have raised $1,250 for It's a Breast Thing. This money will be used to award grants that will help with the out-of-pocket expenses for local breast cancer patients who are currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. Congratulations to our teams for their hard work and dedication to supporting our community.

Staff at the new Grand Ledge Emergency Department, coming soon on October 20, participated in a "Day in the Life" exercise to prepare for opening day. Thank you, Delta Township Fire Department, for also participating in this exercise, as well as filling in as the "patient" while staff walked through triage procedures. With this week recognizing National Midwifery Week, we're highlighting our amazing Certified Nurse Midwives. Meet Sameerah Shareef, CNM, who provides midwifery care at our McLaren Greater Lansing North Lansing Women's Health. Sameerah provides care for patients during their pregnancy journey, but also throughout their lifespan, including menopause and beyond. "We can provide much of the same care as OBGYNs, including prenatal care, labor support, and pain management, as well as preconception, family planning, and well-women exams." In celebration of National Midwifery Week, we want to take a moment to introduce our Certified Nurse Midwives here at McLaren Greater Lansing! Meet Casey Claussen, CNM, who recently joined McLaren earlier this year. Casey provides individualized care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. She also assists with reproductive health, gynecological health, and family planning. When asked what her favorite part of being a midwife was, Casey stated: "It's building a trusting relationship with my patients and their families while helping them navigate their health through some of the most impactful moments of their lives."
