Anjan Katta begins his day by letting it come to him — Kirtan music instead of alarms, hot water instead of caffeine. ☀️ That rhythm carries through his work as founder and CEO of Daylight Computer Co., where he’s rethinking what a computer can be. “The real product is set and setting — environments that enable you to be the best version of yourself,” Katta says. It’s why Daylight’s first device, the DC-1, looks and feels unlike anything else: a matte e-paper tablet designed to support the human nervous system rather than overstimulate it. On Meridian: a look at the details of how Daylight is designing technology that doesn’t pull us away from embodied life, but helps us return to it 👇 ✍️ Written by Jonathan Simcoe

“I think the line between writer and builder is blurring. The line between writing and software is blurring. And I think Every is a somewhat unique expression of that.” As a student, Dan Shipper studied philosophy while building and selling his first company, Firefly. In 2020, he co-founded Every Inc. with writer Nathan Baschez, launching SuperOrganizers as one of its first series — an exploration of how people think, work, and build. In our latest chat with Dan, he reflects on how those details connect, and how AI now fits into the mix — shaping not just how he builds, but how he asks the question that continues to guide his work: what comes next? ✨ Fun fact✨ Mercury actually banks most of a16z speedrun's most recent cohort! Last week, for #SFTechWeek, Ramit Singh, Matt Heiman, and I hosted an event with 27 speedrun founders and 28 investors-- many of them on Mercury's own cap table. Was so awesome meeting founders like Mark Benliyan who I'd been talking to before but IRL. Like our product, our events are designed with intention-- to help our customers grow their businesses faster. I'm talking meaningful introductions to investors and others who can help founders build. (Not just parties in celebrity's mansions, although I guess those are fun too 😅) Thanks so much to Andrew Lee, Rose Johnson, Macy Mills, Mayowa Ajayi, and Kevin Wu for their support! And thank you to Alex Lassar and Maria Pope for making the magic happen, this event couldn't have happened without you.

🌁 SF Tech Week 2025 was one for the books! Over four packed days, Mercury collaborated with an incredible lineup of partners and vendors to host seven events across the city. It was a fun sprint, but I’ll admit I was very thankful for the long weekend and a chance to recharge. 💛 Here are my highlights: We kicked things off on the Bay with water cycling and brunch — brought to life with the help of some amazing, hand-selected local partners: SpinOut Fitness & Yacht Club, Hedge Coffee, and Frankie's Java House. Sunshine, espresso, and iconic SF views made for the perfect start (and some stellar action shots). The week continued with a packed conversation on how startups are rethinking their go-to-market strategies, hosted alongside Upstarts Media, Vanta, and Sequoia Capital. The discussion was thoughtful, candid, and full of insights from leaders actively shaping what’s next. We also hosted a live recording of The Room Podcast featuring the co-founders of Hex, Barry McCardel (CEO) and Caitlin Colgrove (CTO). It a session filled with sharp perspectives, honest storytelling, and plenty of great laughs. The full episode will drop as part of Season 13 soon, so stay tuned! I have endless gratitude for all of our partners, speakers, and to the incredible Mercury crew who helped bring each event to life — thank you! And of course, a special shoutout goes to all of the kind, curious, and ambitious attendees who made every event so memorable. You’re the reason we do what we do. 💫 Last week was a powerful reminder of the immense creativity and incredible talent this city holds — and how fun it is to build (and host) in SF.

Some ideas are too good to flush. For Scott Hickle 🚽 and Tim Blumberg, “smart toilets” started as a poker-night joke — the kind you laugh at, then can’t stop thinking about. It became Throne, a device that helps people understand their health in a way that feels effortless and deeply human. What began with curiosity and a few rough prototypes has grown into a company using what we flush away to offer real insight — and, one day, early detection. As Scott says, “Someday soon, I want someone to be able to say, ‘My toilet saved my life.’” ↓ Read the full story in our latest Memory Bank.

There’s plenty of talk about AI replacing jobs. But new data shows that entrepreneurs using AI are creating job opportunities – not cutting them. Appreciate Center for American Entrepreneurship for highlighting our findings and conversations they’re having with AI-focused founders in their latest roundtable ⤵️
A recently released survey by Mercury and recent roundtables with AI-focused entrepreneurs conducted by the Center for American Entrepreneurship and gener8tor reveal that #startups are using #AI to create – not eliminate – jobs https://lnkd.in/eatsy-t5

Svetlana Lovoukhin and I just finished building a custom jigsaw puzzle for Mercury, and honestly… it might be the most on-brand thing we’ve ever done. One thing Mercury is obsessed with is quality, from our product design to the shirts we send to our clients. That stuck with me. I wanted to bring that same care and attention to detail not just into this project, but also into my own company, Mango Puzzles. “Quality is the manifestation of consistent, skilled care.” Getting to literally piece together both worlds this week felt like the perfect full-circle moment. Excited to keep pushing the boundaries of quality and continue to create the most perfect jigsaw puzzle on the planet for the people (and companies) out there. 🧩 🫶
