  • Achieving Measurable Quality In the manufacturing of Residual Gas Analyzers (RGAs), precision is essential. These analyzers demand highly accurate assemblies, making the definition of critical dimensions and consistent measurement practices fundamental to producing quality components. Previously, verification of parts and assemblies relied heavily on the expertise and subjective perception of individual technicians. Recognizing this opportunity for improvement, I initiated a project to bring structure and objectivity to the process. After several iterations and thorough analysis of outcomes, I was able to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to pave the way for automated imaging and measurement systems. Today, these systems verify assemblies with high accuracy and provide data that distinguishes good builds - advancing our quality control toward a stronger, data-driven and fully measurable approach. • Watch MKS President & CEO John T.C. Lee’s keynote address from the Optica VIP Executive Reception earlier this week. Explore with John how heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, and photonics are reshaping the future of AI.

WERE YOU IN THE ROOM LAST NIGHT? At the Optica VIP reception at the SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, John T.C. Lee, President and CEO of MKS Inc., delivered a world-class keynote on why advanced packaging has become the new system bottleneck in AI. Below is the first 15 minutes for Linkedin (max length). But I recommend watching the full version (50) minutes including the Q&A. Essential viewing if you are in charge of strategy for a leading photonics company. Here is the link:https://lnkd.in/gbW_mT3b Summary: Lee positioned MKS as a foundational infrastructure provider. $3.8B revenue. Technologies embedded in ~85% of wafer-fab equipment and ~70% of critical advanced packaging and PCB steps. His core message was blunt: semiconductor scaling alone is no longer enough. AI performance is now constrained by how chips are connected, powered, cooled, and packaged. Tracing MKS’s 65-year evolution, Lee explained the strategic logic behind the Atotech an MKS Brand acquisition. Initially unpopular with investors, it proved prescient as AI boards exploded in complexity. Servers now require ~40-layer PCBs, with 60 layers in development and 100 already on roadmaps. Packaging is undergoing the same structural revolution semiconductors went through over decades. He framed Moore’s Law in three eras: transistor scaling, multi-core architectures, and today’s heterogeneous integration. NVIDIA’s H100 at 336 billion transistors only works because packaging makes many chips behave as one system. In the Q&A, Lee addressed hard issues directly: the Atotech leverage “penalty box,” the overnight loss of ~15% of semiconductor revenue from 2022 export controls, and why MKS runs zero-based R&D planning tied to real market pull. His conclusion was clear. The next decade of AI will be decided as much by packaging and photonics as by silicon. A rare, systems-level view from one of the industry’s most disciplined operators. Thanks to Opsydia, MKS Inc. and PHIX Photonics Assembly for sponsoring this 4th Edition of the VIP Reception at MOMA. Interested in bringing your brand in front of top leaders in photonics? Reach out to Carmen Paños for details. And if you see Olga Raz, Jon Pugh, Helena Diez-y-Riega or myself please step up and say hello and tell us that Linkedin sent you.

  • Hydrogen purity is moving from “ppm‑ok” to “ppb‑or‑bust” as H₂ scales into transportation and stationary power. That demands real‑time, online QA with multi‑component speciation across ppb–% ranges—even with interferents like H₂O and light hydrocarbons. MKS' MultiGas™ FTIR Gas Analyzer delivers fast, simultaneous detection of CO, CO₂, NH₃, formaldehyde, H₂O, and C₁–C₃ hydrocarbons with ppb‑level limits and strong cross‑interference tolerance—with methods that meet SAE J2719 for fuel‑cell‑grade H₂.
