The Madison Metropolitan School District is committed to ensuring that every school is a thriving school that prepares every student to graduate high school well-equipped for college, careers and their community. We serve over 27,000 students in 49 schools, including 32 elementary schools (grades K-5), 12 middle schools (grades 6-8), four comprehensive high schools and one alternative high school. We also have 4-year-old Kindergarten (4K), early childhood programs and alternative programs at the secondary level (grades 6-12). The District covers approximately 65 square miles including all or part of the cities of Madison and Fitchburg, the villages of Maple Bluff and Shorewood Hills, and the towns of Blooming Grove, Burke and Madison.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage! Tonight, MMSD joined our Hispanic and Latinx community at Centro Dane County to celebrate culture, connection and community! Families enjoyed delicious food, lively music, with special performances from students from Henderson Elementary and Chávez Elementary Superintendent Joe Gothard, Ed.D. and MMSD leaders welcomed families, emphasizing the importance of coming together to celebrate and support one another. We were proud to partner with amazing organizations including Madison Reading Project, Inc., Celebrate Smiles and many MMSD departments offering resources around secondary programs, FAFSA support, early learning, multilingual programs, literacy, HR opportunities, MSCR and more. Three MMSD Schools Shine Brighter with New Solar Arrays Lori Mann Carey Elementary, La Follette High and West High schools recently brought new panels online. Together, the systems are expected to save the district more than $46,000 every year while preventing over 565,000 pounds of carbon emissions, about the same as taking 55 cars off the road. The Madison Metropolitan School District is proud to share that Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard has exceeded expectations in his first annual performance evaluation by the Board of Education. The comprehensive review used evaluation prompts from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and elements from the MMSD superintendent job description.
