  • MOSERS Chief Investment Officer, TJ Carlson, was recently peer-nominated for a Markets Group Strategy Award. This award recognizes CIOs who have developed and implemented innovative investment strategies while delivering strong results in a challenging market. Markets Group presented the Strategy award at its annual summer retreat, held from July 14 to 16 in Park City, Utah. Carlson was recognized for his successful strategies in portable alpha, including expanding its application within the MOSERS portfolio. MOSERS restarted its portable alpha program in 2019 and has expanded its use to five asset classes totaling more than $4 billion of beta exposure. MOSERS currently uses portable alpha within global public equities, global private equities, core bonds, private credit, and private real assets. The portable alpha program has added significant value to the pension plan over time, typically performing about 2.5% to 3% higher than a passive implementation. This has translated into more than $100 million in additional earnings over the past two years. MOSERS continues to work with its managers and consultants to optimize and expand this program. Christine Giordano with Markets Group said about Carlson, “I loved hearing your strategic plans for portable alpha, as well as the powerful speeches your CIO peers spoke about your integrity and life's work during your award celebration. Congratulations.” About the award, Carlson said, “It’s an amazing honor when your peers select you — and then show up to say kind words.” Visit the Markets Group website to learn more about Carlson’s award-winning strategies. https://lnkd.in/gFdE4x-H
