MUSC Health's Living Donor Program is saving lives! When Darcell Lomack Jackson’s heart transplant last year affected her kidneys, her son, AJ Diggs, didn’t hesitate to step up as her living donor. Just a day after surgery, AJ was already up and walking. This video captures their bell-ringing celebration at MUSC Health, a powerful moment marking a new chapter for them both. We’re honored to have played a role in helping Darcell return to better health and grateful for people like AJ who step forward as living donors, offering the best option for those in need of a kidney transplant. Living donation saves lives. Learn more about our Living Donor Program at muschealth.org/transplant. #ChangingWhatsPossible #DonateLife

When breast cancer patient Patricia Latham was offered a chance to join a clinical trial at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, she saw more than a treatment pla: she saw purpose. Having worked in clinical research herself, Patricia understood the power of participation. Her involvement in a study led by Dr. Jennifer Harper, exploring how to “right-size” treatment for women with early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer, is helping shape care for generations to come. Stories like Patricia’s highlight how Hollings’ clinical research is improving lives and redefining what’s possible in cancer care. With a $3.5 million grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, MUSC geneticist Dr. Betty Tsao, the Richard M. Silver Endowed Chair for Inflammation Research, is leading a five-year study to identify rare mutations linked to childhood-onset lupus. Her work could reveal new biological pathways that drive lupus, offering opportunities to develop treatments that are less toxic and more precisely targeted. By combining genetics, clinical insight, and collaboration, Dr. Tsao’s research aims to improve outcomes and quality of life for lupus patients of all ages. "Aimee went above and beyond for a paralyzed patient who was struggling emotionally during his hospital stay. He hadn’t been outside in weeks and was feeling increasingly isolated, lonely and depressed. Without being asked, Aimee took the initiative to coordinate with the care team and made all the necessary arrangements to safely take him outside. She ensured he was comfortable and safe throughout the experience, and more importantly, she simply spent time with him. No rush, no distractions — just presence. Her actions weren’t part of a checklist or assignment; they came from the heart. Aimee recognized a human being in need of more than just medical care, and she responded with empathy, kindness, and grace. In doing so, she not only addressed his physical needs but helped restore his sense of dignity. It was the kind of care that leaves a lasting impact — not just on the patient, but on everyone who witnessed it.: Congrats and thank you to our July DAISY award winner, Aimee Goley, RN! You exemplify MUSC Health's mission to change what's possible for every patient! Thank you for all you do! #ChangingWhatsPossible #DAISYAward

"This experience has reminded me just how much our choices shape our health and, by extension, our lives. Over the past two months, I’ve lost 40 pounds (15+ more to go), shifted my diet, built in better exercise routines, leaned in on my meditation practice and focused on a healthy balance between work and life. Those choices made me strong enough for this moment." Heart care is about more than procedures. It’s about helping patients reclaim their strength, confidence and quality of life. Craig Park, an MUSC Health patient from Georgetown, SC, recently shared his story after undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) following a congestive heart failure diagnosis. Through his recovery, he’s made lasting lifestyle changes and continues to inspire others with his resilience and positive outlook. We’re proud to have played a part in Craig’s journey and grateful for the care teams across MUSC Health who make stories like his possible every day. Craig, it's an honor to take care of your heart! #ChangingWhatsPossible #HeartHealth #TAVR #Cardiology
