Mobile Workshops are one of the most powerful experiences at #CitySummit25! They’re a great opportunity for attendees to experience major economic development and infrastructure projects in our host city, Salt Lake City Corporation. One of our Mobile Workshops is “All Aboard for Regional Transit.” Hop aboard the FrontRunner, Utah’s aptly named commuter rail line, for a one-of-a-kind mobile workshop exploring the future of regional transit. As we travel along the scenic Wasatch Front, you’ll ride in a reserved car while learning how Salt Lake City and its neighbors are using station area planning and transit-oriented development to drive smart growth. This tour offers a firsthand look at how integrated transit systems can boost economic development, improve air quality, and expand access to housing and jobs. Along the way, we’ll highlight key strategies and success stories that local leaders can take back to their own communities. “In previous shutdowns, many of our federal and military personnel—essential members of our community—were still required to report for duty without pay, putting added strain on local resources like food banks and emergency assistance programs as families work to keep up with rent, mortgages, and groceries.” In our new blog post, hear from Mayor Victoria Woodards of City of Tacoma and other local leaders on how municipalities of all sizes across America are feeling the ripple effects of the government shutdown. https://lnkd.in/gTQjEKxv

“What we need from our federal partners right now is certainty, a clear path forward that supports our local economies. Fear of the unknown has the potential to stall progress. I urge Congress to prioritize consensus and work quickly towards a bipartisan compromise that would restore stability for our nation’s cities, towns and villages.” In our new blog post, hear from NLC President Mayor Steve Patterson of Athens, OH and other local leaders on how municipalities of all sizes across America are feeling the ripple effects of the government shutdown. https://lnkd.in/gZkKuQBt

One of the hallmarks of a strong community is the ability to create opportunity for the next generation. A joint initiative between Peoples Gas and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is doing just that! The Peoples Gas Bright Futures U program provides CPS students with classroom and hands-on experience in the energy industry. Students who complete the program have jobs waiting for them when they graduate high school. Learn more about this initiative in City of Chicago in a post authored by Frank Canavan, Director of State Affairs at the American Gas Association. https://lnkd.in/gGcS4_Jp
