Together, we welcome Meredith Moon—daughter of legendary singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot—for a special evening of music and remembrance. Last week, the 𝘊𝘰𝘭. 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘔. 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 became a permanent part of Toledo’s nighttime skyline during an unforgettable evening made possible by The Admiral Society, the museum’s leadership-level membership group. The Admiral Society is designed to foster a deeper level of engagement between the museum and its most invested supporters. Each year, members select a “future-building” project—ranging from artifact acquisitions and new exhibitions to educational outreach—that shapes how the museum preserves and shares Great Lakes history across the region. In May, members chose to illuminate the 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳, ensuring this iconic vessel is celebrated day and night, not just in Toledo, but as a landmark for the Great Lakes community. 🌟 Interested in taking your support to the next level? 📖 Fall Lecture Series | Iron Diamond: The Living Legacy of the Shenango Fleet On Wednesday, October 15 (7–8:30 p.m.), the National Museum of the Great Lakes is proud to host a free lecture featuring Captain Paul C. LaMarre III and award-winning photojournalist Christopher Winters. Together, they will preview their forthcoming book Iron Diamond: The Living Legacy of the Shenango Fleet—a story more than a century in the making. From the engineering marvels of the Shenango “Diamond Line” to the enduring legacies of the 𝘚.𝘚. 𝘊𝘰𝘭. 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘔. 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳 and 𝘚𝘵. 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘺’𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳, this program explores how these narratives continue to shape both Great Lakes history and the museum itself. Celebrating 70 Years - Moving Forward, Growing Stronger | Anniversary Spotlight: 2014 | National Museum of the Great Lakes The National Museum of the Great Lakes opened its doors in Toledo on April 26, 2014. The Museum acquired the Port Authority’s Toledo Maritime Center, built in 2007 and located off Front Street in East Toledo, for its new location and also welcomed the Col. James M. Schoonmaker as an exhibit. This year, the Museum celebrated the grand opening of its “Second Wave” 5,000 sq. ft. expansion.
