Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day Last week on the Wind River Reservation, a joint effort brought students out to experience the harvest of a buffalo that will be shared with elders and families. The buffalo is in the songs, ceremonies, and lodges of tribal people, Jason Baldes told the students, stressing the gravity of the event to them. Eastern Shoshone members Jason and Patti Baldes started the Tribal Buffalo Initiative to catalyze reconnection to buffalo. Both tribes have a buffalo site, and herds have grown since the early days. It's #WorldMigratoryBirdDay 🦅🦆🦢 Corina Newsome, National Wildlife Federation's Conservation Scientist, joins Mongabay’s podcast to discuss how bird-watching plays a role in environmental justice for underserved communities in urban areas and provides an accessible way for people to connect with nature. "To successfully conserve birds, it requires coordination across boundaries. It requires collaboration. And so what birds require of us will benefit us in ways that are far beyond bird conservation." - Corina N. Listen 📲: https://ow.ly/iH0U50X9qWg
