🚁 Quantum technology is shaping the next frontier of secure communication. 🧠 At #SHINE25 in Istanbul, one of the most striking demonstrations featured NATO’s quantum experiment on secure communication: using drones in coordinated flight to test Post-Quantum Cryptography for identifying friend or foe in tactical operations. 💡 Supported by the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), and featuring innovators from across the Alliance, the experiment showcased how NATO’s innovation ecosystem connects research, startups, and operators to deliver real-world impact. 🚤 Autonomous systems are redefining maritime security by detecting threats, clearing mines, and protecting critical infrastructure in real time. 🦾 At #SHINE'25 in Istanbul, NATO demonstrated how uncrewed systems are transforming maritime security. Autonomous ships, drones, and underwater vehicles worked together using advanced navigation and multi-modal sensors to detect and neutralize drifting sea mines, even in GPS-denied waters. The experiment showed how technology can protect crews, enhance precision, and keep vital sea lanes secure. ✨ Led by NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), SHINE concluded this year’s #InnovationContinuum (SPARK, IGNITE, GLOW, SHINE). 🛡️ NATO is developing layered, adaptive solutions to meet a fast-evolving challenge: countering drones and glide bombs. The latest generation of solutions combines AI-enabled prediction tools, reusable interceptor drones, and swarming denial systems to build layered, cost-effective defences. 🚀 Under the leadership of NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT), technologies selected and tested in the NATO Innovation Challenge and developed through the Innovation Continuum are now demonstrating a rapid pathway from concept to field-ready capability. 🛡️ At this week's meeting in Brussels, NATO Defence Ministers reaffirmed that, in support of NATO’s core mission of collective defence, the Alliance will adopt faster and smarter, and innovate together to stay ahead of emerging threats. 🤝 Ministers committed to increasing defence investment, strengthening production, and continuing unabated support to #Ukraine. 🛡️ Call to Industry: Counter-Uncrewed Aircraft System Capabilities. As innovation accelerates, so do the threats. Swarms of low-cost drones are testing Allied defences and NATO is responding. 🛩️ Through the Layered Counter-Uncrewed Aircraft System (C-UAS) Initiative, NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) is inviting industry to help test, implement, and refine solutions that strengthen the Alliance’s integrated air and missile defence.
