During his visit, he met with Dr. Norman Jones, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education, and Walter "Ted" Carter Jr., the 17th president of The Ohio State University and retired vice admiral, to discuss academic partnerships and opportunities for Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps students. Naval Service Training Command proudly celebrated the graduation of New Student Indoctrination (NSI) Cycle 1 aboard Naval Station Great Lakes, June 23. Over the course of a rigorous 2.5-week program, Midshipmen candidates underwent standardized basic military training designed to develop discipline, teamwork, and the foundational skills required for success as future Navy and Marine Corps officers. Their graduation marks the first major milestone in their Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps journey. The ceremony featured remarks from Commander, Naval Service Training Command, Rear Adm. Matthew T. Pottenburgh, and Officer in Charge of NSI Cycle 1, Capt. Abigail Hutchins. A special moment was captured as Rear Adm. Pottenburgh, a proud alumnus of The Ohio State University, posed for a photo with Midshipmen from his alma mater displaying the legacy of leadership and mentorship within the NROTC program. Commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), Rear Adm. Matthew T. Pottenburgh, joined NROTC midshipman candidates for early morning physical training aboard U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command (RTC). Following the workout, he delivered an inspiring message, encouraging candidates to keep charging forward as they continue their journey through New Student Indoctrination. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) falls under Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), led by Pottenburgh.
