Meet Monique, also known as “Nurse Mo”! With 27 years in nursing, 23 of those years have been in Maternal Child Health, specifically labor and delivery. “I wanted to be a nurse to help people, and I thought helping families bring a newborn bundle of joy into the world would be a great way. I’ve been at Nemours Children’s Advanced Delivery unit for three years. Our setting can evoke mixed emotions, as families may have heavy hearts knowing their child has been diagnosed with a complex medical issue. On the other hand, there is comfort in knowing there is a place like Nemours that can care for their family. For me, being part of the team in my role as a nurse to help these families is an indescribable reward.” As we recognize Perinatal Nurses Week, we’re honored to have compassionate team members such as Nurse Mo, helping take care of families in need. Born with profound hearing loss, Olivia faced extraordinary challenges from her first moments of life. Thanks to two cochlear implant surgeries performed by Nemours Children’s experts in Jacksonville, she can now hear and communicate. “We almost instantly saw an improvement,” says her mom, Casey. “She dances now.
