This past weekend, the New Era Cap Foundation, along with Hope Rises Network, hosted their second annual Mother Like No Other Retreat - a heartfelt gathering dedicated to championing the incredible women who consistently answer the call of being a mother without hesitation. They welcomed 25 extraordinary women for a well-deserved escape focused on self-care, connection, rest, and rejuvenation. This retreat was more than just a getaway - it was a celebration of resilience, strength, and community. In just two short days, the 25 women - strangers at first - turned into a circle of support, empowerment, and genuine connection. They shared stories, strengths, vulnerabilities, and most importantly, space for healing and growth. One of the women who was nominated and selected to attend the retreat was Debbie Hastings. Debbie joined the New Era Cap Foundation and Hope Rises on Daytime Buffalo yesterday to share more about her experience at the retreat, as well as her own story. Debbie runs The Sunflower Promise, a community initiative that aims to support and uplift mothers who have experienced the loss of a child. Thank you to the many partners that teamed up with the New Era Cap Foundation & Hope Rises to make this weekend a reality. Here's to honoring the ones who give endlessly - and to making sure they're cared for, too.

Last night some of our New Era employees had the opportunity to attend the Mental Health Advocates of WNY Inspiring Change Dinner through the event sponsorship of the New Era Cap Foundation. The mission of MHA is to break down barriers that prevent equitable access to mental health care and resources. Through their work, MHA strives to create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported, and ensures that no one faces their mental health journey alone. The Annual Dinner serves as the agency’s largest fundraiser of the year and recognizes individuals and organizations making a difference in the mental health space. We were honored to watch as Ray Davis, Running Back for the Buffalo Bills, received the 2025 MHA Advocacy Award and spoke about why it is important to him to support youth in foster care and mental health wellness. Jodi Johnson was also recognized for her 14+ years of service to MHA through her work with their CASA program. CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocates – are trained volunteers who ensure that the needs of an abused or neglected child are met and that they do not fall through the cracks. We congratulate Ray and Jodi on their accomplishments and commitment to the mental health field, and we thank MHA for all they do in our community!

The New Era Cap Foundation honored International Women’s Day this month with a celebration held on Thursday, March 6th. The event, hosted at 500 Pearl, brought together individuals from the community to hear inspiring stories on the career journeys and achievements of women in business leadership position. Hearing from the individuals on the women’s panel – including Lorrie Turner of New Era Cap, Kelly Maloney of Uniland Development, Suma Kulkarni of ACON Investments, Stephanie Peete from Say Yes Buffalo, and Lauren Lopez from Rich’s - was nothing short of empowering. As the celebration continued, Shiza Shahid took the stage as the keynote speaker. Shiza is the co-founder and co-CEO of Our Place, a mission-driven brand reimagining kitchenware for the modern, global kitchen, co-founder of the Malala Fund, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to champion every girl’s right to education, and has been recognized as one of Time’s “30 Under 30 People Changing the World.” The entire audience was engaged as Shiza shared her professional and personal journey, and the obstacles she overcame to be where she is today. On behalf of the New Era Cap Foundation, we’d like to thank the amazing panelists who participated, the inspiring keynote speaker, Shiza, the phenomenal emcees – WIVB News 4 Anchor Kelsey Anderson and WIVB/WNLO-TV (Nexstar Media Group) News 4 Daytime Buffalo Host Chelsea Lovell – the New Era Cap volunteers, and all the individuals who attended the event. The stories shared, the wisdom exchanged, and the powerful conversations that were sparked were truly unforgettable.

Earlier this month we had the honor of welcoming our friends from WNY HEROES INC to our office—along with a very special guest, Captain, the service dog being sponsored by the New Era Cap Foundation! Our team had the opportunity to learn about the Pawsitive for Heroes program and the many ways WNY Heroes supports veterans in our community. Captain is more than just a dog—he’s a life-changing companion for a veteran in need. We’re grateful for the chance to contribute to this mission and to support those who have served our country. A huge thank you to WNY Heroes for the incredible work you do!
