    With more electric vehicles hitting the roads, are firefighters equipped with the right tools to respond to EV fires safely? In recent years, firefighters have been inundated with new tools and tactics that claim to help them respond to electric vehicle fires, but few of them have been independently tested. Now, a long-awaited research project is finally providing clarity to lingering questions while offering timely warnings.     The Fire Protection Research Foundation (FPRF) has released a new Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the project “Fires in the Shadows – Literature and Expert Insights on Short-Term Rental Fires. This opportunity is designed for academic institutions, faculty advisors working with undergraduate or graduate students who want to contribute to applied fire safety research while providing students with meaningful, hands-on experience. Submissions are due by 5:00 PM ET on November 7, 2025. The RFQ outlines the project scope, anticipated deliverables, and available funding.
