President and Chief Executive Officer, NIKE Inc.

Today, I had the privilege of sharing with Nike teammates across the globe that our home in Beaverton will be renamed the Philip H. Knight Campus — “PHK.” Here’s what I wrote: https://lnkd.in/gGqCSRiy To every teammate: thank you for carrying forward the belief, irreverence and courage that Phil built into this place. Together, I know we are writing the next great chapter of the company we love and bringing inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world. And to Phil — we are so thankful for the gift of your vision. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in the beautiful (we hope!) spring Oregon weather next year. * If you have a body, you are an athlete #PhilipHKnightCampus #Nike #JustDoIt

Behind every great athlete is a great coach. And great coaching centers on creating a culture of belonging that welcomes everyone. Still, many volunteer youth coaches are not trained on the basics. We’re trying to change that. It's what our Nike Coach Summits, hosted in seven cities across the Americas — Toronto, Mexico City, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and Portland — are all about. Led by the Center for Healing and Justice Through Sport (CHJS), the summits provide a best-in-class model for local coaches to access quality training so young athletes can have positive experiences in sport.   Last weekend, Leah Brecunier, Senior, Social & Community impact (SCI), Oregon, kicked off the 3rd annual Nike Coach Summit at Nike’s WHQ, alongside over 200 Oregon teachers, coaches and staff from grantee organizations. "As a company founded by a coach and an athlete, coaching is so important within Nike," says Leah. "These summits allow us to bring unique insights to coaches across the state, and those learnings cut across my roles as athlete, coach and mom. Kids need us more than ever."   The week’s trainings in Portland included a session on Body Confident Sport, a resource Nike created in partnership with Dove, the Centre for Appearance Research and the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport. The session is designed to change the way girls think about their bodies, shifting from how they look while playing sport to appreciating the amazing things their bodies can do. The session also addressed the need to teach girls the power of being brave in sport, not perfect.   "If you’re considering becoming a youth coach, I’d encourage you to embrace the same, brave-not-perfect mindset," says Leah. "You don’t need to be an expert — we can teach you the skills you need. That’s what these summits and resources like our Nike Coaching Hub are for. All you need to do is believe in kids, believe in yourself and believe in the power of sport."   Check out Nike's coaching resources: https://lnkd.in/gAzqeqxJ #CoachTheDream #NikeCoachSummits #JustDoIt

At Nike, we believe sport has the power to unite. Global Tech’s Biannual Day of Sport brought together 2,200 teammates from around the world — from Poland to Greater China to our own Beaverton, Ore. Nike World Headquarters — to move and connect. Because here, sport is more than performance. It’s how we live, lead and grow. It drives us, inspires us and brings us together. “Leading Global Tech Sports Day was one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve done at Nike,” says Trae Shanks, Software Engineer III and Global Tech Brand and Sport Ambassador. “From planning brackets to jumping into dodgeball, it was amazing to see everyone come together through sport. The energy was unreal, and it really showed how we live the Nike spirit — and how we make sport a daily habit.” Come move with us: https://nike.com/careers #NikeCareers #GlobalTech #SwooshLife #JustDoIt

Last weekend, golden autumn sunshine fell across the Portland Marathon race course, where nearly 12,000 runners made their way through the city — the highest participation for the race in the last decade. This was also Nike's first year as the event’s official footwear and apparel sponsor, and Nike employees showed up in full force, including Brian Perez Aguilar. A Portland EKIN in Retail Marketing, Brian helped plan for the events leading up to race weekend, which included making the course for a Saturday morning shakeout run that started at the Nike Company Store and continued through campus at Nike World Headquarters. He also organized pre-race runs with two local run clubs: Deadstock Run Club and Caminando Running Club, both with deep ties to the Portland running community. As someone who used his Nike role to help shape the race experience for Portlanders, Brian says he knew the responsibility he had to go big for race weekend. “We wanted people to feel like this was unlike any marathon they’d run before,” he says. “You feel a real commitment from the company to support the city, rooting itself in events like this, and that support is felt all the way from senior leaders to employees on the ground.” Come run with us: https://lnkd.in/gQsYYF2m Photos by Joshua Lee Sondelski #JustDoIt #NikeRunning #SwooshLife

Coaches help make athlete dreams real — and that’s at the heart of everything we do at Nike.   Timed to National Coaches Day in the U.S., Nike is honoring the powerful role coaches play in shaping the future of sport through a new film, Coach the Dream, narrated by U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) Head Coach Emma Hayes. The film is a rallying cry to recognize and elevate the impact of coaches, especially in youth sport. Alongside the film, Nike has launched the Global Coaching Hub — a new digital destination where coaches, both seasoned and aspiring, can access expert-backed resources to help young athletes build a lifelong, positive relationship with sport.   Kate Incerto has worked on Nike’s Social & Community Impact team for six years. As Principal on the Global Brand and Marketplace team, she focuses with her colleagues on increasing youth participation in sport, making her last eight months of developing the coaching hub and articulating the tone of Coach the Dream especially significant. For Kate, the work is deeply personal. She knows how a coach can make or break a young athlete’s connection to sport, particularly for girls.   As a collegiate soccer player at the University of Texas at Austin, Kate began coaching camps for young girls with Team First Soccer Academy — led by legends of the USWNT ’99ers, including Mia Hamm. The experience instilled in her the values that made that team iconic: showing up for others, leading with humility, and putting the team first.   “This is deeply meaningful work to me, and I feel lucky to be part of it,” Kate says. “That experience has helped shape how I approach my work at Nike, my relationships and my sense of purpose.”   Explore Nike's Global Coaching Hub at https://lnkd.in/gAzqeqxJ #CoachTheDream #JustDoIt #NationalCoachesDay

Maybe you’ve heard the story of design student Carolyn Davidson creating the Swoosh logo for $35? There’s far more to the lore. First, there was “Swoosh Fiber,” then came “the stripe.” Then a mark that would go on to stand alone. “I don’t love it,” Phil Knight famously said at first, “but it will grow on me.” Years later, the Swoosh has become an iconic symbol recognized around the world. “What we wanted it to stand for was speed, which it did and still does. But now it means much more than that,” Knight says. “It symbolizes the best in sports. And it did grow on me!" Dig in to the untold history: https://lnkd.in/gQXWygVw Pictured: An early sketch from designer Carolyn Davidson on how to connect the Nike name with the Swoosh logo. #NikeHistory #DepartmentOfNikeArchives #DNA #JustDoIt

Nike is Nike because of its culture — and few teammates have embodied that culture more than Nelson Farris. Our longest tenured employee, Nelson started with us in January 1973 as a sales manager. He fell in love with the idea of being a runner serving runners, and since then he’s pretty much done it all. From launching our European Headquarters to leading marketing at the 1984 Olympics Games, Nelson estimates he's held at least 16 different jobs, traveling to more than 60 countries. Nelson’s so ingrained in Nike’s legacy, he was even featured in an early Nike ad. This month marks Nelson’s retirement from Nike. The video below gives you a taste for Nelson’s love for Nike, and our love for him. For your 52 years — and the work, fun and service to athletes within them — thank you, Nelson.
