On this week’s episode of The Nordy Pod, our host Pete Nordstrom takes us behind the scenes of Nordstrom’s journey to become a private company. In part one of this two-part series, Pete is joined by co-CEO Erik Nordstrom, Chief Merchandising Officer Jamie Nordstrom, and Ken Moelis of Moelis & Company, the investment banking firm that helped guide the process. Together, they unpack the motivations, challenges, and risks of buying back Nordstrom, and they discuss what it means to preserve the legacy of a nearly 125-year-old business while adapting to an ever-changing retail landscape. Whether you're interested in business strategy or curious about how Nordstrom is staying true to its values while starting a new chapter, this episode is a must-listen: https://lnkd.in/g7rycFNP

It is with heavy hearts that we at Nordstrom share the news of the passing of Ray Johnson, a beloved member of our community and a key leader in our company’s history. Ray's journey with Nordstrom began in 1969 when he joined to lead our human resources department. He quickly transitioned to store leadership, managing our old Bellevue Square and downtown Seattle locations, before rising to general manager of the Washington/Alaska region. In 1985, he became general manager of Northern California, where he oversaw the opening of 12 new stores in six years. In 1991, Ray was appointed co-president of Nordstrom, and in 1995, he was named co-chairman. He served in both positions until his retirement in 1996. Even after retiring, Ray continued to be involved in the business. He supported store managers, attended recognition meetings and even came out of retirement in 2002 to lead Nordstrom.com during a pivotal moment for our business. Ray and his wife Ardy were the driving force behind the Nordstrom “Beat the Bridge” run-walk, which has raised over $40 million to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes. Ray was known for his calm demeanor, sharp business acumen, and ability to make everyone feel valued. He loved recognizing and celebrating people throughout the company, especially store employees. For those who didn’t have the chance to work with him, his legacy lives on at Nordstrom in the way we serve our customers, work together, and strive to leave things better than we found them. We extend our deepest condolences to Ray's family and loved ones. We are grateful for his many contributions to Nordstrom, and we will honor his memory by continuing to carry forward the values he embodied.

This week on The Nordy Pod, our host Pete Nordstrom takes an honest look at what makes Nordstrom, Nordstrom — our dedication to customer service. We know that service is our strength, but we also know it’s something we’ll never fully master. That’s why “improve” is the key word in our number-one goal — to make the customer experience better, one interaction at a time. In this episode, Pete speaks with Nordstrom leaders, including co-CEO Erik Nordstrom, Chief Merchandising Officer Jamie Nordstrom, Vice President and General Manager Chris Wanlass, and store managers Brandon Gross, Stephany Pierce, and Ted Reed. Together, they reflect on moments where we’ve gotten it right and times when we’ve missed the mark. You’ll hear how we’ve learned from missteps, leaned into humility and used those lessons to guide us forward. Tune in to hear about our work to improve customer service every day: https://lnkd.in/g8xwjyjS
