  • Please welcome Tejas Kannan to Northwood, a Software Engineer, who comes to us from MIT Lincoln Laboratory. At Northwood, we are working to bridge the gap between space and life on Earth. We’re excited to have Tejas on our team helping to bring us closer to that reality.    What excites you about the present and future impact of space technology and its reach into our daily lives? Space technology plays a vital role in climate science. One of the major challenges in climate science today is obtaining reliable and timely remote sensing data. Developing robust satellite data collection systems will transform our understanding of Earth’s climate and help us better anticipate and respond to natural disasters.    Why did you join Northwood? Northwood conducts innovative work across both hardware and software. It is rare to find a single company that tackles interesting, fundamental problems in both domains. The diversity of work makes every single day exciting.    Likes: Spending time outdoors / Reading nonfiction books / Going to the gym / San Francisco 49ers Football    Dislikes: Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball / Los Angeles Rams Football / Seattle Seahawks Football / Los Angeles Lakers Basketball    Please give Tejas a warm welcome to the Northwood team!    Interested in opportunities at Northwood? Our portfolio company Northwood is pushing the boundaries of ground infrastructure with the most powerful commercial communications phased array ever built. 📡 Their newly unveiled Portal system delivers 1kW transmit power, sub-picowatt receive sensitivity, and supports LEO, MEO, and GEO. It enables 3× more beams than existing systems and scales to 6–8kW for GEO—all at a fraction of the cost and schedule of legacy tech. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gdG-S4JJ Kudos to Bridgit Mendler, Griffin Cleverly, Shaurya Luthra, Zak Kirstein, Ben Penrose and the entire team!

  • Northwood has built the highest power commercial communications phased array at a fraction of the cost and schedule of traditional standards. We have successfully demonstrated that our Portal system can deliver 1kW of transmit power and sub-picowatt receive, supporting LEO, MEO and GEO. These faces can be arrayed in modular configurations to support higher power levels such as 6- or 8-array configurations supporting 6- or 8-kW power to GEO at site.

Satellites power things we all rely on – weather forecasts, global internet, disaster response, even GPS on your phone. But they can’t do any of it without ground stations. The problem? Today’s ground infrastructure wasn’t built to scale. At Northwood, we’re rebuilding it: faster to deploy, cheaper to operate, and built for the future. Appreciate Eric Berger and Ars Technica for taking the time to dig in – and a big thank you to the Northwood team whose work made this story worth telling. We’re hiring. If you want to see what you build deployed around the globe, check out our open roles: https://lnkd.in/gBiBVpYb https://lnkd.in/ecQv2Am2

  • Please welcome Matthew Staden to Northwood as our Warehouse Operations Manager, who comes to us from Arc. At Northwood, we are working to bridge the gap between space and life on Earth. We’re excited to have Matt on our team helping to bring us closer to that reality. What excites you about the present and future impact of space technology and its reach into our daily lives? The fact that satellites floating way above us are quietly shaping life down here — from tracking wildfires to streaming your favorite show in the middle of nowhere. Being part of the team that builds the tech to keep those connections running? That’s the kind of behind-the-scenes magic I’m pumped to help make happen. Why did you join Northwood? The mission is real, the team is sharp, and the opportunity to help scale a company that’s literally connecting the planet was just too good to pass up. Likes: Ice hockey, space documentaries, a perfectly optimized warehouse, Las Vegas Dislikes: Missing inventory, the phrase "we've always done it this way", paper straws, heights Please give Matt a warm welcome to the Northwood team! I typically think it's pretty tacky/lame/whatever to make the latest major event about your "thing", but Ukraine's "Spiderweb" attack highlights just how fragile US and allied satellite command, control, and communications infrastructure is. A small handful of high-profile, critical ground assets, many of which reside OCONUS, can be taken out by a few thousand dollars worth of drones and some meticulous planning; we're no longer talking about an unthinkable, major strike on US or allied territory. Many of our most critical missions are a "Spiderweb"-like event away from being permanently crippled because of bottlenecked ground systems. The only way to ensure true resilience is through scale and speed. Northwood is proud to continue to build with our USG, allied, and commercial partners to realize this vision of resilient ground systems. #ResilientGround #ResilientC3 #ResilientSATCOM #ProliferatedGround

  • Please welcome Claire Yin to Northwood as our Business Operations and Strategy Manager, who comes to us from Tesla. At Northwood, we are working to bridge the gap between space and life on Earth. We’re excited to have Claire on our team helping to bring us closer to that reality. What excites you about the present and future impact of space technology and its reach into our daily lives? Space technology is an integral yet often unrecognized part of our daily lives, enabling everything from global connectivity to earth observation and climate monitoring. As the industry continues to evolve, it holds immense potential to drive innovation, enable sustainability, and transform sectors. What excites me most is how we’ve only just begun to tap into the full potential of space! Why did you join Northwood? Northwood is redefining standards for the space industry's ground stations—the antennas on Earth that send and receive data to and from satellites, critical pieces of space technology that are decades old and long overdue for renewal. Today's ground infrastructure is costly and increasingly outpaced by the acceleration of satellite launches and growing demand for global connectivity. It's exciting to be part of such a forward-thinking team that's modernizing one of space technology's most critical bottlenecks. Likes: graphic design / baking / word games / farmers markets Dislikes: slow walkers / traffic / coffee / typos Please give Claire a warm welcome to the Northwood team! • Please welcome Nicholas Fabbroni to Northwood as our Finance Operations Specialist, who comes to us from SpaceX. At Northwood, we are working to bridge the gap between space and life on Earth. We’re excited to have Nick on our team helping to bring us closer to that reality. What excites you about the present and future impact of space technology and its reach into our daily lives? The proliferation of assets in space has grown over the past decade from just a hundred objects launched per year to thousands being launched annually today. From both a national security and technology innovation perspective, space has become an essential domain for developing applications that benefit Earth. Due to exponential improvements in launch cost, reliability, cadence, and capacity, an industry historically dominated by research has expanded into global satellite internet, microgravity data centers, point-to-point transportation, pharmaceutical development, and even lunar mining. While space exploration was once restricted to only the wealthiest nations, nearly 80 countries across six continents now have national space programs. I believe we’re only scratching the surface of what this new capability could mean for humanity. Why did you join Northwood? Northwood has a clear goal to improve the latency, uptime, throughput, and cost of ground stations - the cell towers of the space industry. The current market lacks the capacity and flexibility to support the growing scale and diversity of space activity, and we’re tackling that problem head-on. I couldn’t be more excited to join a team with decades of industry experience and help Northwood enable the future of space - from the ground up! Likes: geography, the beach, martial arts, pork roll Dislikes: hot drinks, ferris wheels, beans, people who put their seats back way too far on flights Please give Nick a warm welcome to the Northwood team!
