Officially, one year as Editor-in-Chief - and for those still wondering how this happened, I’m right there with you.
Giving a 25-year-old the keys to a major media company was either brilliant or insane… but I think we did okay (pun intended #areyouokay).
In the last year, we rebranded the company, built a content studio, launched three hit shows, sold a ton of brand deals, pacing to x6 ad revenue, turned a profit for the first time, pulled in billions upon billions of views, grew #NowThisImpact by 2.6 million followers, added over another million across our NowThis originals, threw some very fun parties, spoke at some insane conferences, and made a lot of new friends.
But more than anything - we failed. A lot. And it’s through those failures that we learned, iterated, and built something that worked. That’s where the wins came from.
On one side of the company, we’re building the future of entertainment. On the other, we’re doing our part to uphold democracy - as the top progressive media company in the nation. None of it happens without this team. They show up every day to make the impossible possible, and I am endlessly lucky to work alongside them.
I owe it all to my brilliant CEO Sharon Mussalli - who was bold (or wild) enough to take a shot on me. Her leadership raises the bar for all of us daily, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I know what it means to be the first #GenZ Editor-in-Chief of a major media company. People saw my age as a gamble - so did I - but I do think it’s been one of our biggest assets. Let this year be a message to other leaders: give us a seat at the table. We’re ready.
These next few months at #NowThis are going to be even bigger, y’all are gonna want to keep watching.
