The Exchange aims to confront urgent climate impacts and develop innovative, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
About us
The New York Climate Exchange (“The Exchange”) is a first-of-its-kind collaborative model for accelerating climate change solutions for New York City and beyond. Powered by its strong partnerships and future home on Governors Island, The Exchange will use education, research, an innovation hub, job training, and public programs to prepare communities to respond to climate challenges. The Exchange is based on a simple idea: collaboration works. The Exchange’s partner network includes climate experts, researchers, educators, business leaders, and community organizers who are working together to tackle the effects of climate change. Expected to open in 2029, The Exchange’s home on Governors Island will be a beacon for sustainable and resilient urban environments around the world, using renewable energy and zero-waste technologies to generate more energy than it consumes. The Exchange also aspires to be New York City’s first large-scale mass timber development and first Living Building Challenges certification. Together, The Exchange’s partner network, physical campus, and extensive offerings will explore and develop climate solutions focused on justice and inclusion; the relationship between energy, water, and food systems; and sustainable urban environments. This past Friday, over 750 energy geeks, academics, and innovators gathered on Governors Island for #DERvos2025, a full-day conference on renewable energy generation and storage. Featuring partners and experts all sharing a vision for a clean energy future, the event showcased the power of convening and Governors Island's unique setting for climate exchange and collaboration. Congrats to the DER Task Force and Trust for Governors Island for an outstanding conference! We’re excited to continue these conversations at our Climate Campus in 2029.

Activating local communities to collect and assess #climatedata can't be done in silos. It's been a pleasure to team up with Arcadis, Urban Tech Hub and CIV:LAB recently to showcase the importance of hyperlocal environmental and weather data. If you missed us at the historic Woolworth Building during #ClimateWeekNYC, we hope to see you at the Urban Tech Summit on Nov. 11-12: https://lnkd.in/eeSBuPnA

🗽 Streetlife Ventures welcomes the world to the streets of New York! LinkedIn doesn’t need post # 83,523 recapping #NYClimateWeek, but it 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 need a healthy dose of optimism about the world we want to live in. We spent the week surrounded by brilliant founders, investors, operators, policymakers, scientists, and activists, all reminding us that the future is bright. Following Climate Week NYC, we’re reflecting on a week filled with meaningful conversations, innovative ideas and a shared commitment to turning ambition into action. We were proud to host a symposium, Innovations for a Changing Climate: Weathering the Future, with The Municipal Art Society of New York and The New York Climate Exchange in our NYC office. Our attendees were welcomed by our own Paul Storella, P.E., Senior Vice President & Water Lead, New York Metro, and the event featured a keynote by New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, presentations from Meteomatics, NVIDIA, The New York Climate Exchange and panels that explored how to design for extreme weather and strengthen resilience in urban environments. Karen Appell, P.E., Vice President & Climate Change Lead, New York Metro, also highlighted our Cloudburst Program in Queens, which is helping advance climate resilience across New York City. Our subject-matter experts also participated in Climate Week NYC panels on topics including resilient infrastructure, decarbonizing concrete, mass transit and climate change. They also provided insights on how innovative design and strengthened partnerships can drive climate solutions. Congratulations to all who participated in making Climate Week NYC such a successful and impactful event. #ClimateWeekNYC #ClimateAction #AECOM #Resilience #Sustainability

Local governments are working to manage infrastructure and build climate resilience in their communities. From New York City’s flooding subway system to California’s wildfire evacuations to coastal cities—from Seattle to Miami— building flood barriers against rising seas, this is an important new resource from CDP. Join us on their US Snapshot webinar on Tuesday, Oct 28!💡 https://lnkd.in/eUDNSuqq #climatedata #urbanresilience #sustainablefinance
📢 New Snapshot: US Infrastructure Opportunities From energy to water to transportation infrastructure, US cities have capital investment needs that will meet the challenge of climate change, build more resilient places and drive economic development. CDP's US Infrastructure Opportunities snapshot, released today, from the data disclosed to CDP-ICLEI Track in 2024, shines a light on funding needs for climate projects across the United States and identifies opportunities where physical climate risks meet active local leadership developing solutions. The data shows that: ➡️ Climate risks are universal: 98.6% of cities faced significant climate hazards in 2024 ➡️Cities are responding: 93% now having climate action plans in place. ➡️Yet the funding need is growing: $40.8 billion project investment need across 124 cities ➡️Project pipeline represents investment opportunity across 484 projects Transparent reporting through CDP provides the critical foundation for scaling climate action and directing capital toward resilience projects across the US and globally.
