Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123

First graders at Hannum Elementary became doctors for the day as they participated in the Human Body Centers, celebrating the end of their Human Body Unit. This interactive culminating activity brings together everything they learned in this area of study in a fun way that applies classroom topics to real-world experiences. Maybe some of these little doctors today will even grow up to be surgeons!

Be a buddy, not a bully! This week, District 123 is celebrating Unity Week, a time to teach and reflect on the importance of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying in schools. At Covington Elementary, 5th grade buddies led a powerful kindness activity, creating colorful hands filled with ways to support and lift each other up. Together, they're building a school where every hand makes a difference!

Staying connected with our learning community is important to us at District 123, and that includes our retired educators. Today, the D123 Education Foundation hosted its annual Retired Staff Luncheon, welcoming former staff members back for an afternoon of connection, celebration, and updates about the Ed Foundation’s initiatives for enhanced student learning.

Congratulations to the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Lady Mustang Softball Team for earning third place in the SWIC Conference Tournament. Their hard work, teamwork, and determination shined all season long. Way to go!

Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 recently welcomed families from across the District to Hometown Elementary School for a Parent University session focused on Illustrative Math. Math specialists Mrs. Malone and Mrs. Finnegan led families through interactive activities, allowing parents to experience the types of classwork students encounter daily. District 123 Parent University sessions offer opportunities for families to engage in educational practices, learn strategies to support their children’s success, and explore a range of topics, all while highlighting the district’s commitment to collaboration between teachers and families.
