As IIT(ISM) Dhanbad embarks on its journey into the second century, it is a moment to celebrate and reaffirm the long-standing relationships the institute has nurtured with its valued energy sector partners. Among these, our association with Oil India Limited (OIL) stands out as a bond of more than six decades, marked by mutual trust, collaboration, and shared contributions to the nation’s energy future. To mark the Centenary Year, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad has initiated a series of leadership visits to its industry partners, aimed at further strengthening these bonds as the institute steps into its new century. The visit to the Office of Oil India Limited (OIL) formed a key part of this continuing endeavour. The delegation was led by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, and included our distinguished alumnus Shri Ashok Kumar and Dr. Saurabh Datta Gupta, PIC (IRAA), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. Prof. Rajeev Upadhyay, Dean (IRAA), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, was closely associated with coordinating the visit and ensuring its success. An insightful interaction was held with Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) and Shri Saloma Yomdo, Director (Exploration), Oil India Limited (OIL). The discussions revolved around strengthening industry–academia collaboration and outlining the strategic requirements for sustained growth in the energy sector. Among these, our association with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) stands out as a bond of more than six decades, marked by mutual trust, collaboration, and shared contributions to the nation’s energy future. An insightful interaction was held at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Urja Bhavan, ONGC, with Shri Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman & CEO, ONGC, in the august presence of Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad; distinguished alumnus Shri Ashok Kumar; and Dr. Saurabh Datta Gupta, PIC (IRAA), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. The meeting saw the close involvement of Prof. Rajeev Upadhyay, Dean (IRAA), IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, as part of the memorable Centenary Celebrations of our Alma Mater. The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, had the distinguished honour of hosting the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest at its 45th Convocation on August 1, 2025, during the Institute’s Centenary Year celebrations in the esteemed presence of national dignitaries including Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, and Shri Sudivya Kumar, Hon’ble Minister, Govt. of Jharkhand. The Hon’ble President praised IIT (ISM)’s century-long legacy of academic and technological excellence, and called upon the students to innovate with empathy and strive for inclusive and sustainable progress.
