Business Building a Better Ohio

About us

In 1992, the Ohio Business Roundtable was established for one sole purpose: to improve Ohio’s business climate. Since its inception, the OBRT has worked with Ohio’s governors and legislative leaders to make Ohio more business-friendly and more competitive both nationally and internationally. The Roundtable is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization comprised of chief executive officers of many of Ohio’s largest, most successful companies. Because of the collective expertise and insight of OBRT members, the Roundtable is uniquely capable of bringing solutions to improve Ohio’s economic vitality and ensure that Ohio remains the ideal state in which to live, work and succeed.

  • 🔙 Throwback to our President and CEO Pat Tiberi’s days in Congress, passionately advocating for affordable housing policy. 🏡   Over a decade later, the need for safe, attainable housing is just as urgent— and the Ohio Business Roundtable continues to champion solutions that leverage public–private partnerships, expand the Low‑Income Housing Tax Credit, and remove barriers to development.   Pat’s message then is our mission now: stable housing strengthens families, fuels local economies, and keeps Ohio competitive for talent and investment.

When housing works, politics takes a back seat. This 2013 clip of Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH) still rings true.   He lays it out clearly: the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) is exactly what public-private partnership should look like.   👉 "Isn’t it a good thing to get the public and private sector working together?"   Exactly.   LIHTC isn’t about left or right. It’s about building housing — and delivering outcomes.   This program helps people transition off the streets, into housing, into jobs. It leverages private capital to deliver public good. And when done right? It works.   → It’s not partisan. → It’s not political. → It’s human.   That’s why it’s earned support across the aisle — and across the country.   - LIHTC properties exist in nearly every congressional district — red, blue, and everything in between. - Republican and Democratic administrations alike have backed and expanded the program. - And each time Congress has revisited it, both parties have lined up to strengthen it.   Housing matters. Always has.   #LIHTC #AffordableHousing #PublicPrivatePartnership

  • Governor DeWine Signs House Bill 15: A Milestone for Ohio's Energy Future   Yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 15 into law, marking a pivotal step forward in Ohio's energy policy. This legislation introduces critical reforms to the state's regulatory framework, aimed at fostering investment, enhancing grid reliability, and strengthening Ohio's economic competitiveness.   We are pleased to see many of the priorities and recommendations from OBRT’s Energy Competitiveness Study reflected in HB 15! This legislative achievement underscores the power of collaboration among policymakers, industry stakeholders, and organizations committed to enhancing Ohio’s energy future.   https://lnkd.in/gVdwdySe

  • Yesterday, Alexandra K. Denney testified before the Ohio House Energy Committee in support of House Bill 142, highlighting the bill’s critical role in strengthening Ohio’s energy infrastructure and economic competitiveness. Our state's current process for setting utility rates takes is lengthy--one of the longest in the nation--which leads to higher prices for customers and a less reliable grid. HB 142, which was one of the recommendations from our Energy Competitiveness Study, addresses that.

  • Ohio can’t compete for jobs if we don’t have places for workers to live. Last year, Raleigh, NC had more housing starts than the entire state of Ohio—a clear signal that we must do more to meet the demands of a growing economy. That’s why the Ohio Business Roundtable supports Senator Reynolds’ Residential Economic Development District legislation (SB 184), which helps local governments overcome infrastructure costs like traffic studies and water/sewer connections when building housing near major economic development sites. Yesterday, OBRT’s Nicholas Rhodes testified in support of this bill. More housing means more opportunity—and we’re proud to advocate for policies that strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness. #Housing #EconomicDevelopment #WorkforceReady

  • Great to see Google leading the way with smart, forward-looking workforce solutions for the energy industry!   Google released its new policy paper, Powering a New Era of American Innovation, outlining a path to strengthen U.S. competitiveness. As part of this effort, they also announced a $10 million grant to the electrical training ALLIANCE to expand apprenticeships and develop a skilled energy workforce across the country. Strong policy, bold investment, and a clear commitment to workforce development—that’s a formula Ohio can get behind.   🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRgBEtuc
