Oh, baby! Last week, OPPD volunteers participated in United Way of the Midlands' Day of Caring.🧡 At the Nebraska Diaper Bank, our group wrapped 165 bundles, equaling 4,950 diapers that will help 83 babies. The total across all volunteer groups was over 20,200 diapers, helping 313 babies. 👶 OPPD volunteers also spent time assisting at HETRA (Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy), Heartland Hope Mission and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands - Carter Lake Club. Thank you to all those who dedicated their time and to our partners for all they do in our local community.

Today, we celebrated the expansion of our generation fleet with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at our newest plant, Turtle Creek Station. The station can produce up to 450 megawatts of energy. During the event, we also broke ground for the expansion of a third unit, which will provide an additional 225 megawatts of electricity. We want to thank our employees, partners and community members who made the operation of this plant possible. 💪 Building a diverse energy portfolio is part of our dedication to meeting the growing demands of our service territory.

Last week, the City Sprouts Community Garden celebrated its 30th anniversary at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on behalf of the Greater Omaha Chamber. 🌻🎉 City Sprouts formed in 1995 after neighbors came together to reclaim an overgrown city lot and made it a garden. Today, City Sprouts Garden Crew volunteers plant and maintain the garden each year. In 2024, City Sprouts - Omaha was selected through OPPD's local Greener Together Grant to receive over $71,000 in accessibility and sustainability improvements, which are now officially complete. Through this grant, their garden has expanded with an accessible sidewalk, continuing their mission of connection and inclusivity. Through Greener Together, customers can make monthly contributions to support green projects throughout OPPD’s 13-county service territory. Nonprofit organizations can apply to be considered for grant funding for projects that involve renewable energy, environmental sustainability and/or community betterment or education.
