Last week, we gathered for our annual employee celebration to honor the incredible staff members who are retiring or moving on to new adventures. It was a heartfelt sendoff filled with laughter, memories, and well wishes. A huge thank you to everyone who helped plan and coordinate this event, and to all who came to celebrate these amazing individuals. Your presence made the moment even more special!

Orting High School is proud to welcome Matt Carlson as our new principal for next school year! Carlson has been a dedicated leader in the Orting School District since 2019, serving as Assistant Principal and CTE Director. With over 20 years of experience as a School Counselor, including at OHS, and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University, he is deeply committed to student success. “I am humbled and honored to serve as the next principal of OHS,” Carlson shared. “I look forward to building a school culture where each student, each day, is empowered and inspired to believe anything is possible in pursuit of their goals and dreams.” Please join us in welcoming Matt to this new role. We are pleased to share that Cliff Fries, our current Orting High School principal, will move into a new leadership role as the district's Executive Director for Business and Operations. This newly created position helps support the transition as we say goodbye to two longtime leaders; Debi Christensen, Executive Director for Human Resources, and Steve Rabb, Executive Director for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, who will both retire at the end of the school year. To further support our district, we will also be hiring a new Human Resources Director in the near future. Fries has been a pillar of the Orting School District since 1999, serving our students and families with unwavering commitment, all at Orting High School. He previously taught, worked part-time in our technology department, and served as an assistant principal. Beyond the classroom, Fries has also helped shape student-athletes' lives, coaching boys' and girls' soccer and contributing to numerous other sports programs throughout the district. "I'm excited to continue to grow the Orting School District into a competitive and welcoming school system, where all pathways are honored and we are responsible stewards of our taxpayers' resources," Fries shared.
