Proud of Casey Selzer, LM, CNM, MSN and our team for representing Oula at the ACNM National Conference in Palm Springs this past weekend. They shared our research on the use of digital tools in pregnancy care, and the response from midwifery leaders was incredible — and reinforced our belief that technology should serve providers and patients, not replace the irreplaceable human connection at the heart of maternity care. Excited to share more about what we're building in the coming weeks!
I’m reflecting on National Midwifery Week and an inspiring weekend at the ACNM National Conference, where we explored "Midwives at Every Table: Practice, Policy, and Research." It was regenerative to gather as a community and lean into our collective vision for the future of maternity care. It was also a proud moment for Oula as we presented our work on patient-centered pregnancy care and digital health tools, and to feel such an engaged response. There was a clear hunger for solutions coming from clinicians. Midwives, nurses, and healthcare leaders didn't just review our program design and metrics—they engaged deeply, problem-solving with us, sharing challenges around care coordination and patient monitoring, and envisioning how these tools could transform their own practices. The conversations energized me. We explored how automated screening could detect complications earlier, how digital blood pressure monitoring could close postpartum care gaps, and how collaborative care platforms could streamline workflows that too often pull us away from direct patient care. What moved me most is what I feel every time I'm in a room full of midwives: the collective optimism and willingness to roll up our sleeves and do the work. Yes, we face real challenges, from workforce shortages to fragmented systems and health inequities—but there's tremendous momentum and dedication to the mission of bringing this type of care to more patients and doing it authentically and with an ability to adapt, generously sharing knowledge, resources and tools with each other to keep the work moving forward. In humanity's oldest profession we know these digital tools aren't replacing the art of midwifery; they're amplifying it, returning precious time to what matters most: the space shared between patients and clinician. To everyone who stopped by, asked thoughtful questions, and shared your experiences: thank you. You reminded me why this work matters and who we're doing it for. Here's to building a future where technology serves humanity, and where every pregnant person receives the coordinated, evidence-based care they deserve. #Midwifery #ACNM2025 #DigitalHealth #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #PatientCenteredCare
