Now that we’re in 2026, AI is firmly embedded inside finance teams at PE-backed companies. What’s becoming more visible is a quieter risk: finance leaders using public AI tools with sensitive financial data, often without clear governance or guardrails in place. This isn’t about bad intent. It’s about speed outpacing policy. When P&Ls, forecasts, or pricing assumptions are pasted into consumer AI tools, control over that information can disappear quickly. For PE firms and boards, that creates risk most would never knowingly approve.
