Our President and CEO Nancy Lindborg stopped by Devex Impact House to discuss the future of global development and the critical role of civil society. Civil society is the backbone of democracy and has been at the heart of the Packard Foundation’s work for over 60 years. Our commitment to protecting civic space, including the fundamental freedoms of speech and assembly, continues to guide our work. We know that lasting progress happens when local leaders have the rights and resources to drive change. In 2024, 46.4% of our grantmaking in Global Majority countries supported locally led organizations—surpassing our original pledge to direct at least 25% of our funds spent in countries outside the U.S. to local organizations and leaders. This achievement is both a milestone and a motivation. We remain committed to deepening these partnerships—and call on our colleagues in philanthropy and global development to join us. By exploring new approaches, learning from one another, and evolving our practices, we can ensure local leaders are empowered to propel progress on the issues that matter most. Our Children and Families Director Bernadette Sangalang reflects on the lessons we've learned through our decade of investment in family, friend, and neighbor care. Learn more ⬇️ #FFNAppreciationWeek
Looking back at a decade of investment in family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) care, I’m encouraged by how far the field has come and am excited by the promise it holds for making affordable, nurturing child care accessible to more families across the U.S. FFN care isn’t a new idea. Families have always leaned on grandparents, relatives, friends, and neighbors to help raise young children. But it is an idea whose time has come – and one that is ready to be included as an essential part of our nation’s approach to making child care available for everyone. It’s also a great example of the kind of idea philanthropy can and should invest in, and I look forward to watching the field continue to grow. As we mark #FFNAppreciationWeek, I’m reflecting on the lessons we've learned and how philanthropy can go beyond grantmaking to support community-rooted solutions. https://lnkd.in/gTHyh2_4
