What a week last week was! One of the biggest events in the procurement calendar, DPW Amsterdam, took place. With the theme of "Putting AI to Work", we were on home territory - with amazing speakers like our own Amanda Mathes, Rolls-Royce's Tom Kniveton and Bristol Myers Squibb's Paula Glickenhaus joining us on stage for our talk with The Hackett Group Inc.'s Chris Sawchuk about how to become a manager of AI agents in procurement. DPW, it’s a wrap! An intense few days: CPO roundtables, meeting new startups, reconnecting with current clients, and even signing a new one on the spot! If I had to summarise one takeaway, it’s this: - Right now, there’s a flood of demos and pilots around AI Agents. It’s relatively easy to spin something up in a month that looks impressive in a meeting room. It’s exciting, but then what? - Most of these pilots won’t scale. They’ll create noise, complexity, and next year we’ll see a wave of disappointment. Yet again, we will have overestimated the short-term impact of a new technology. - But then time passes. We start to see proper global rollouts. Agents working alongside humans. Procurement operating models fundamentally shifting. Roles changing. A new normal is emerging. And suddenly it feels like it happened overnight. So, we realise we yet again underestimated the long-term impact. So here’s my encouragement: don’t fall into that bias. Take the journey deliberately. Be calm but ambitious. Show leadership. Collaborate deeply with your tech partners. Step by step, build the new operating model. It is inevitable. The photo was taken by our newest (and already legendary) team member, Marshall. “Supplier collaboration” is a lonely box, so I marked it with a dot to be it as a reminder of what’s in our DNA. Pactum AI isn’t just about #savingswhileyousleep, it’s about transforming supplier collaboration. When agents take care of suppliers, suppliers take care of us.
