We hear this a lot from patients … I shouldn’t (or don’t or can’t) squat because I have “bad knees”. Some have even been told this by a doctor. My favorite response -> do you want to be able to get off the toilet yourself in ten or twenty years? If so, you are going to squat. You need strong quads and glutes to do many of the functional activities that ensure our independence. In addition, practicing squats (in our clinic and not just your bathroom) … 1️⃣ Builds muscular strength to support the knee joint and reduce pain over time. 2️⃣ Increases stability to the joint making it less prone to injury and better equipped to handle daily life. 3️⃣ Improves mobility for healthy range of motion to improve overall function. 4️⃣ Enhances functional movement and makes life easier for those with arthritis or history of knee injury. Of course, proper form, appropriate modifications, gradual progression, and addressing other areas of weakness are crucial to safe squatting. Stay tuned for more of the how to’s and leave questions you would like answered in the comments.

Ryder pushed through last lacrosse season with knee pain, but mountain bike season was too much. Dr. Trevor's movement assessment indentified ankle mobility as the root cause of the knee discomfort. He could have done ALL the "knee things" to stretch and strengthen, braces and ice packs. None of it would have been a permanent solution because the ankles were what needed to be addressed. Hands on manual therapy was the answer to mobilize his ankle and get his whole lower body working better. He is pain free and strong! Best of luck during this fall mountain bike season and beyond Ryder!

These core values are not just a sign on the wall or a page in our handbook. We live and breathe these every day in the clinic and only hire team members who embody these. Do you know a physical therapist that shares these same core values? We are currently hiring for a full time physical therapist at our Collierville location. Tag a someone you believe would be a stellar team mate for us.
