We connect people with the arts in rich and varied ways, making the experience of the Museum surprising, lively, and always memorable. Our values define who we are. They drive the way we do things and the decisions we make. We are open – we welcome everyone, opening eyes and minds to the expressive power of the arts. We are connected – we sustain and strengthen the communities we serve, bringing together diverse audiences. Updates

  • With our rebrand, we circled back to honor our heritage. Our new logo features a modernized version of the iconic Griffin — a symbolic character and “protector of the arts” that’s been featured in our main building’s architecture since 1928. Our research showed that it was loved and missed by Philadelphians, so we revived the Griffin for 2025! Our updated badge is inspired by the 1938 version, but enriched with archival details and redrawn for a digital age to mark the moment. Did you know the Griffin has been part of our heritage since 1928?

  • Our new look deserves a new home. Thanks to Gone Fishing Studio and Self Aware, our refreshed identity by Gretel now lives beautifully online. We’re proud of what we’ve built together and we think you’ll love it too. Take a look: visitpham.org

  • We’ve been revolutionary since 1876. Today, we proudly reintroduce ourselves to the world with a new name, a bold new look, and a renewed commitment to Philadelphia. Meet the Philadelphia Art Museum, a name the city’s residents have used for generations, and now, the one we officially embrace. While we've long been known as a cultural treasure, we're stepping off the hill and into the heart of the city, more connected than ever to Philly’s pulse, people, and future. At the center of this new identity is the revival of a beloved icon; the Griffin, first introduced in 1938. Redrawn with fresh energy and deep respect for our archives, the Griffin once again stands as our symbol and protector of the arts. It’s a powerful emblem of both legacy and progress. Get ready to experience new exhibitions, programs, fashionable merch, a fresh website, innovative digital content and more. Go to visitpham.org to learn more and get a first look at our new brand identity.

  • Two exciting events are coming up in honor of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, and you’re invited to celebrate with us through art, music, food, and community. On Sunday, October 5, join us for Family Festival: Things That Go, a full day of activities exploring art in motion. Enjoy a bilingual Spanish/English music performance by Caterine Pimiento from Mister John's Music, designed especially for young museumgoers. Don’t miss a hands-on art workshop with Fabiola Lara where kids and families can create mini prints inspired by their neighborhood, family’s country, or a dream destination. Then on Friday, October 10, come back for Friday Night: Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Edition, an evening filled with vibrant culture and creativity. Dance to Latin beats at a salsa party with DJ Vspice, experience a pop-up food takeover by Jezabel's, and hear from Venezuelan-American artist Henry Bermudez in a special artist talk. A Spanish-language tour of the museum will be offered at 6:00 PM, and Fabiola Lara returns with a workshop where you can design and color oversized, stamp-inspired stickers. Both events are Pay What You Wish admission. Celebrate the stories, voices, and creativity of the Hispanic and Latinx communities with us this October.

  • “Surrealism was not an art movement and not a movement in literature, although we think of it that way. It was a philosophy of life all about revolt against the status quo … and, at the same time, reimagining the way things might be,” said Matthew Affron, Muriel and Philip Berman curator of modern art at PMA. “It wants to make you uncomfortable in a good way, to change your frame of reference, to change your way of seeing the world and yourself, to shock you out of mental reference points.” Read more from The Philadelphia Inquirer: https://bit.ly/4pPpMqS "Dreamworld: Surrealism at 100" opens November 8.
