As Hurricane Melissa moves from the Caribbean into the Atlantic, Planet is making select non-commercial data available for qualified users working in or supporting disaster response efforts at planet.com/disasterdata/. We will continue to update the dataset as our satellites capture more imagery of impacted regions. These two PlanetScope images show Hurricane Melissa’s impact on part of Jamaica’s Northern Coastal Highway, and conditions in the area before the storm’s arrival. As this crisis continues to unfold, we’re keeping the communities affected and first responders in our thoughts. Proud to share my latest piece for the Financial Times, outlining why the history of nuclear treaties provides important lessons for addressing the danger and promise of AI. “The solution is not to give up but to dedicate our brightest minds to the complex problems involved. We must shift our focus from “can we trust one another?” to "how can we verify one another?"” Read here: https://on.ft.com/4o49clD

We're incredibly excited and grateful to be featured in today's Google Earth AI announcement! 🌎 🛰️ By fusing Google's foundation models with our global, near-daily scan and powerful data archive, this collaboration has the potential to fundamentally transform Earth Intelligence. What once took analysts hours to complete can now be done in minutes with AI, enabling rapid search and analysis and opening up AI exploration to a much wider audience. As our VP of Engineering, Kiruthika Devaraj notes, this unique combination is key to our #QueryableEarth vision: allowing us to monitor, measure, and predict activity on our planet with unprecedented speed and contextual understanding. In theory, conserving and restoring #forests is one of the most agreed-upon solutions to #climate change. In practice, investment and implementation are hindered by a lack of standardized, spatially-explicit, and cost-effective #measurement of their important carbon sequestration services. #Satellite & #AI technology are changing this paradigm. For the first time, we have multiple models mapping forest structure and carbon at global scales. But to be adopted in practice, these technologies need to be *trusted*. Here I review a recent paper that demonstrates one path developers might take to better disclose model training, validation, and performance in order to build #trust. I also discuss some of the work ahead in helping these technologies get applied to support solutions in practice. As we head to #COP30 in Brazil, the world has no time to wait in better valuing these resources, and investing in the frontline communities stewarding these climate stabilization services for all. #RemoteSensing #Biomass #Forests #DigitalMRV
