Traditional basemaps often mix imagery from different sources and resolutions, making broad-area monitoring and analysis difficult over time. Planet Mosaics (formerly Planet Basemaps) provides a uniform and seamless foundation built from consistent PlanetScope imagery across entire regions. The result is more accurate, reliable analysis over time and space. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gfx9yHWG

In the Horn of Africa, where repeated droughts put pastoral livelihoods at risk, our partner ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) needed a reliable way to monitor vegetation health across more than 1 million square kilometers of pastoral grasslands. Using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time series derived from pre-processed Planet Mosaics, Planet now serves as ZEP-RE’s independent data and validation partner, quantifying conditions and providing the metrics needed to assess drought and inform payouts. Mapping live coral is essential for understanding reef health: traditionally, this has been done with airplanes. With Tanager-1 data, researchers were able to accurately map these organisms from orbit. This suggests Tanager-1 could help unlock scalable, global monitoring of reef composition to support biodiversity and ocean science. What can protect global trade and security amidst the rise of dark fleet activity? Traditional monitoring relies on maritime vessels wanting to be seen. But when signals are spoofed or switched off, the blind spots become risks. Our Maritime Domain Awareness solution changes the game. Combining near-daily satellite imagery with AI-powered detection, you can make better decisions with timely, objective data. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gvaBV9s9

We have a unique role at the intersection of space and AI, enabling the use of open source intelligence to promote transparency and security around the world. Check out this great discussion between Will Marshall and Shashank Joshi with The Economist at Davos.
From satellite imagery to rapid battlefield feedback, open-source intelligence has played a crucial role in offsetting Russia’s conventional advantage in the war in Ukraine. Co-founder and CEO of Planet, Will Marshall, explains to The Economist’s defence editor, Shashank Joshi, how data has helped to shape Ukraine’s battlefield decisions. Earlier this week, I had the honour meeting King Charles III at Windsor. The event brought together a dozen leaders to discuss real-world solutions to help accelerate the sustainability of shipping. Tracking and monitoring is a critical component. The Sustainable Markets Initiative is an organization I’ve been involved with for years - and whose mission is more important than ever. 🌍

One year ago, Los Angeles suffered the most damaging wildfires in the region’s history, primarily impacting the communities of Altadena and the Pacific Palisades. In the critical days following ignition, before airplanes were cleared for aerial flyovers, Planet imagery helped authorities fill critical information gaps and allocate resources, providing the timely mitigation and monitoring information commercial and government organizations need to successfully respond to disasters. Images captured in January 2025 show the immediate impacts, while follow-up shots from last December reveal the early stages of recovery. Our thoughts remain with the communities working to rebuild.
