AIS tracking by Pole Star Defense reveals key insights into the SOLONG (IMO: 9322554) container ship collision with the U.S.-flagged tanker STENA IMMACULATE (IMO: 9693018).  Key Findings:  ➡️ Speed Concern: SOLONG maintained 16 knots for 78 minutes before impact, only reducing to 15 knots prior to collision.  ➡️ Post-Impact: Initial speed recorded at 7.2 knots at 09:47:04 UTC, reaching a full stop over 13 minutes later. ➡️  No Course Adjustments: Despite eight anchored vessels nearby, no evasive maneuvering or external influence was detected, indicating potential navigational miscalculation, loss of situational awareness, or possible mechanical limitations. Confidence Level: Moderate to High Analysis is based on AIS-derived data from satellite, terrestrial, and shipborne receivers by Pole Star Defense. On 16 December 2024, the European Council adopted its 15th sanctions package, targeting Russia’s shadow fleet and sanction evasion. 🔹 52 new vessels have been banned from accessing EU ports and services, bringing the total to 79. In response to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Washington has escalated its sanctions, specifically targeting the Arctic LNG 2 facility. This plant is crucial to Russia's ambitious goal of controlling 20% of the global LNG market by 2030-2035 and was set to become Russia’s largest LNG plant with an anticipated annual output of nearly 20 million metric tons.
