The last two years have presented multiple challenges for pharmaceuticals and CDMOs. Tariff threats, trade disputes and more have all taken their cut of the industry. But, recently, three large CDMOs announced what might be a bright light. Thermo Fisher Scientific, Samsung Biologics, and Lonza all reported earnings upticks for the second quarter. Some of this is because of unexpected overseas demand, and by relocating factories to the US. At Ritedose, we’re always examining the trends and preparing for future headwinds. Navigating FDA inspection classifications A recent look at the FDA inspection logs showed that while the total number of inspections of pharma, medical and food facilities are down this year, the FDA remains very active overall. But what do their classifications mean? We hear about them, but often without explanation: ▪️ No Action Indicated—facility is working in compliance and there are no significant issues ▪️ Voluntary Action Indicated—FDA is encouraging voluntary correction of minor problems and violations ▪️ Official Action Indicated—serious violations found, FDA-mandated actions required This FDA site is a valuable source of information, especially when looking for a manufacturing or CDMO partner.
