When I first met Desiree Perez over a decade ago, I saw myself in her: a proud Latina, sharp, driven, and deeply rooted in purpose and of course those cheek bones that told the story of our connection besides the last name. I remember being asked to meet her in her office, and it stayed with me. She was the first to arrive and the last to leave, and her door was always open, a reflection of her tireless dedication and the kind of leadership that leads with both strength and heart. You may know Desiree as the powerhouse CEO of Roc Nation, where she has redefined what it means to lead in entertainment and business, negotiating groundbreaking deals, building platforms for artists, and elevating culture on a global scale. But I know her heart. I know the woman who cares deeply about our communities, who shows up for justice, and who uses her influence to bring others along. Through her work with the United Justice Coalition (UJC), she has brought so many of us together; organizers, artists, lawyers, and activists, to confront the urgent issues of our time: policing, incarceration, and systemic inequality. That is where her brilliance meets her compassion. It is an honor to call her a friend, a sister in the struggle, and to celebrate her leadership. I’m deeply grateful that Desiree has accepted our invitation to be recognized for her extraordinary work and commitment to justice. Join us next Monday, October 13, as we celebrate 20 years of The Gathering for Justice: two decades of impact, vision, and movement-building. Help us honor Desiree and so many others who have helped shape this journey. 🎟️ Get your tickets now in the link here: https://lnkd.in/eUCtBe8y See you next Monday!
We are proud to honor Desiree Perez, CEO and Co-Founder of Roc Nation, with the Harry Belafonte Social Justice Award at our #20YearsOfImpact Gala Oct 13. As the head of Team Roc and a board member of REFORM Alliance and United Justice Coalition, Desiree has been leading humanitarian efforts and powering reforms across multiple sectors. As a bridge between culture and activism, she has connected valuable resources to the movement to shift narratives toward change and used her platform to elevate marginalized people. The Gathering for Justice worked with Desiree and Team Roc on various justice advocacy efforts, including pushing for Meek Mill’s release from prison, which highlighted probation reform, and calling for transparency, accountability, and justice in Kansas City, Kansas, where many women and families were abused by years of police corruption and cover-ups of crimes committed by former KCKPD detective Roger Golubski. We're honored to celebrate Desiree Perez as a part of our family for our upcoming 20th Anniversary Gala, and we hope you'll join us in NYC.
