Together with co-counsel ACLU of Illinois, Ropes & Gray secured a preliminary injunction and class certification in a lawsuit concerning youth at the Mary Davis Home (MDH), challenging the use of solitary confinement and the lack of adequate mental health care. Judge Colleen Lawless of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois ordered MDH to restrict solitary confinement to limited circumstances and to submit a plan within 30 days for providing mental health services to youth at risk of suicide or self-harm.
