Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States.
About us
In Massachusetts, 1 in 10 residents live in poverty. More than 15,000 people are homeless on any given day. And a stunning 1 in 3 adults are considered food insecure. Rosie’s Place addresses these critical needs by providing comprehensive, compassionate, immediate and expert support to every woman who seeks our help. The mission of Rosie’s Place is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women to maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Rosie's Place relies solely on the generosity of our individual, foundation and corporate supporters. We do not accept city, state or federal funding so that we can maintain our independence.

Because we know newfound stability can be precarious, our support doesn’t stop when a woman finds housing. Through our Housing Stabilization program, we help women who are newly housed or at risk of being evicted with a host of supports including furniture and household essentials, referrals to behavioral health programs, housing court assistance and more.

Our Advocacy Team recently participated in the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s annual Spring Resource Fair, where they met with the community to share information about Rosie’s Place’s many programs and services. Every day, our Advocates help guests with a spectrum of emergency and long-term, basic and complex needs. Through community outreach efforts such as these, we strive to let women in need know they can count on Rosie’s Place for compassionate and impactful support.
