DTECH is officially underway, and our experts Jon Knazur and Aaron Nuffer are onsite in San Diego at Booth 4846 connecting with utility leaders. Today’s conversations are centered on how utilities can better plan, balance, and execute meter reading and field service work in an increasingly complex operating environment. We help utilities reduce mileage, overtime, and operating costs by replacing manual planning with intelligent route planning that accounts for cycle day balance, walk/drive patterns, time windows, and compliance requirements. Looking forward to meeting people at this great event!

In the aftermath of a major snowstorm that swept across the United States this weekend, we’re grateful for the public works professionals who are out there right now—clearing roads, restoring power, and keeping communities moving in brutal conditions. These crews work long hours, often unseen, making thousands of critical decisions that help emergency services operate and neighborhoods stay connected. It’s demanding, dangerous work—and it matters. At RouteSmart, we’re proud to support public works teams with intelligent route planning that helps them operate more safely and efficiently when conditions are anything but normal. To every plow operator, dispatcher, and public works professional on the road today: thank you for showing up when it matters most. Stay safe. #PublicWorks #WinterStormFern #EssentialWorkers

The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics injury and illness data, analyzed by industry expert David Biderman in Waste Advantage Magazine, makes one thing clear: the solid waste industry continues to face serious safety challenges, with injury rates remaining elevated across collection, landfill, and MRF operations. These outcomes have real implications—worker well-being, operational performance, cost control, and public trust. Improving results requires deliberate action, not incremental tweaks. A sustained focus on safety-first operations, including intelligent route planning that reduces high-risk maneuvers and exposure, is essential to driving measurable improvements for workers and the industry as a whole. Important data from David Biderman and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics underscores a sobering reality for the solid waste industry: injury and illness rates remain a serious challenge across multiple segments. At RouteSmart, we believe improving safety starts with intelligent route planning—reducing risky maneuvers like backing up, U-turns, and unnecessary meandering to help protect drivers, crews, and the communities they serve. #safety #wastesafety #workersafety #intelligentroutes
SAFETY UPDATE! The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released 2024 injury and illness data, including for the solid waste industry. The release was delayed by the federal govt shutdown in late 2025. The recordable incident rate (injuries + illnesses) for solid waste collection workers increased from 4.4 to 5.0 in 2024, while the incident rate for landfill workers declined slightly from 3.1 to 2.9. MRF workers had an incident rate of 5.9 compared to 4.4 in 2022. Although this data is not current, it reflects the continued challenges our great industry is having reducing injuries (and collisions) and improving the bottom line and image. Please feel free to contact me if you would like additional info. #safety #safetyfirst
