Via Orange County Register: Welcome to Neon Night, a first-ever event held 5-9 p.m. May 8 at SCC, the fruits of a growing Esports club on campus that, beginning this fall, will become an official sport, with tryouts for the club’s competitive team — just like cross-country, softball, beach volleyball and other traditional Hawk sports. ... At SCC, the Esports club has more than 150 members and 40 who compete competitively, according to Roshan Uma, an experienced Esports professional and Esports coordinator at SCC. Many team members were on hand at Neon Night to show off their skills at an event that was several months in the making. Free and open to the public, total attendees numbered around 400. In a landmark moment for Santiago Canyon College (SCC), over 350 attendees gathered for Neon Night, a dynamic and action-packed eSports Showcase, that marked a major milestone for the college's growing competitive gaming program. Prior to the event, President Jeannie G. Kim, PhD officially announced that eSports will now be recognized as an official sport offering in the SCC athletic department. "We have stepped into the 21st century and eSports will be an official college sport at SCC beginning in Fall 2025," said Kim in her opening remarks. Santiago Canyon College (SCC) will celebrate its annual Commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, at Fred Kelly Stadium. This milestone event marks a special moment in the college’s history, recognizing student achievement during SCC’s 25th Anniversary Year. The Commencement ceremony honors students concluding their educational journey at SCC. This annual tradition takes place at the end of the spring semester to acknowledge students who have completed their coursework in the current academic year, including anticipated summer graduates. Santiago Canyon College is proud to announce that our Esports team finished in first place at the 2025 Aztec Spring Games, hosted by San Diego State University! Competing in Valorant, our team entered the invite-only tournament as the No. 8 seed and delivered back-to-back upsets—defeating top-seeded programs including SDSU Black and CSU Fullerton Varsity—to win the championship. This marks the team’s first full tournament win and caps off a remarkable season of growth and competitive success. With two graduating players, this victory was a fitting milestone for the team’s hard work and dedication. The Hawks now advance to the semifinals of the California Collegiate Esports League, continuing to represent SCC at the highest level of collegiate competition. Congratulations to our SCC Esports team—your skill, strategy, and endurance have made the college proud!
