Last week's Executive Order on "Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth" is a potential watershed moment in building America's AI-ready workforce. As the first U.S. Department of Labor National Industry Intermediary for Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Expansion, we applaud the administration's commitment to linking secondary and post-secondary AI education to workforce development through Registered Apprenticeship. Safal Partners created the first AI apprenticeable occupation in the U.S., and as a national intermediary we have registered more than 3,100 new cyber and tech apprentices in the last four years. To speed up adoption of apprenticeship we've streamlined our process to make it possible for employers to have an apprenticeship program within as little as 48 hours. Our work is accelerating because apprenticeship is clearly the most effective bridge between education and industry and never been more needed than now. AI is reshaping our economy while our workforce is simultaneously undergoing seismic demographic shifts and traditional secondary and postsecondary education is struggling to keep pace. Bringing the best of government, industry and education together is required to meet the challenge…and there is no time to waste. In the same way that Presidential leadership and concentrated federal funding helped America win the space race, commitments like this AI Education Executive Order, coupled with strategic federal investments can help America produce the most skilled, AI-ready workforce. I'm honored to have spoken at the recent panel "The New Administration: Implications and Opportunities for Small Business" hosted by the Greg and Camille Baroni Center for Government Contracting with Nick Wakeman of Washington Technology, Mehul Sanghani of Octo, and Emily W. Murphy, Jerry McGinn, Ph.D., and Attain Partners CEO Greg J. Baroni of the Baroni Center. As an entrepreneur, I see change as normal. The current shifts are certainly unprecedented and mostly characterized by what I call the three S’s: the scale – the size of the changes and challenges; the scope – how widespread these changes are across the entire system; and the speed – how quickly these changes are unfolding and ensuring that we respond in kind. These changes have also affected many clients and colleagues. We empathize with the pace of change they are navigating; and we support incumbent and incoming staff across these organizations by proactively anticipating their needs. Even with these changes, the core of Safal - which literally translates to “good outcomes” - remains constant. As a nimble and results-focused small business, we are doubling down on delivery of agency missions. We are driving good outcomes such as ensuring student success, building the workforce of the future, and supporting veterans. I think it’s important that the Baroni Center at GMU is facilitating these discussions to ensure we’re all well-positioned for service to our public sector clients going forward.
