There's a new store in our NorCal Division! Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of our Tahoe City Safeway led by Store Director Alishia Martinez-Cox. This replacement store brings exciting new features to the community, including an in-store bakery, a larger floral department, and a Starbucks kiosk!   The grand opening was full of energy and local pride! The Truckee High School cheer team and jazz combo performed, we kept customers energized with a DJ and in-store sampling, and the Safeway Foundation made a generous $5,000 donation to Sierra Community House. We’re proud to be part of the Tahoe City community. Next time you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and check out our new store!

Our NorCal Division team proudly celebrated the re-grand opening of the newly remodeled Safeway in Sonora, CA last week! We were happy to welcome Division leadership and Sonora Mayor Ann Segerstrom to help kick off the festivities.   A big shoutout to Store Director Jason Niskanen and the entire Sonora team for their hard work and dedication in bringing this transformation to life. We recently celebrated the remodel of our Modesto, CA Safeway with a vibrant re-grand opening event! It was a pleasure to welcome Safeway leadership and Modesto City Council Member Jeremiah Williams to help mark the occasion. Huge thanks to Store Director Lydia Van Olden and the entire store team for their incredible work in bringing this transformation to life. In honor of the celebration, the Safeway Foundation donated $3,000 to the Modesto Gospel Mission, supporting their vital work in the community we're proud to be part of. Our Oakland, CA team was thrilled to partner with the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation last week to help transform the schoolyard at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary in West Oakland! As part of this inspiring initiative, we donated $50,000 in Safeway gift cards to support more than 300 students and their families. We were grateful to be part of this incredible event — together, we’re making a positive impact in the neighborhoods we’re proud to serve.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our customers and the dedication of our associates, the NorCal division’s Summer Nourishing Neighbors Campaign was a huge success! Together, we raised nearly $1.3 million to support over 50 local food banks and hunger relief organizations across Northern California, Hawaii, and Northern Nevada. A special shoutout to Store Director Auggie Pratti, whose store in Oakhurst, CA led the way by raising the most funds during the campaign! 👏 Your leadership and commitment to community truly made a difference.

The Safeway Foundation is proud to launch our People with Diverse Abilities campaign this August! You can make a meaningful impact by donating at the check stand in Safeway stores across Northern California, Northern Nevada, and Hawaii. Your contributions will help support more than 20 organizations working to create inclusive opportunities, ranging from ability-specific camps for children to specialty services, employment training, and access to care and treatment for individuals with special needs throughout the NorCal Division.
