We give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm in the US & around the world

About us

Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Recognized for our commitment to accountability, innovation and collaboration, our work takes us into the heart of communities, where we help children and families help themselves. We work with other organizations, governments, non-profits and a variety of local partners while maintaining our own independence without political agenda or religious orientation. When disaster strikes around the world, Save the Children is there to save lives with food, medical care and education and remains to help communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs. As quickly and as effectively as Save the Children responds to tsunamis and civil conflict, it works to resolve the ongoing struggles children face every day — poverty, hunger, illiteracy and disease — and replaces them with hope for the future.

  • As hostages and detainees are released and fighting in Gaza pauses, a hopeful reprieve reaches children and families surviving constant bombardment. šŸ³ļøThis is a crucial first step for children in Gaza, but their survival will only be secured by a definitive and lasting ceasefire. Gaza now needs a sustained surge of aid to prevent more deaths from starvation, disease, and injury. Save the Children stands ready to scale up life-saving aid for children who desperately need it, while continuing the support we’ve provided to children and families over the past two years of war.

  • Art can be a pathway to explore what’s in our hearts and minds 🪟 In our programs, it’s also a window into children’s emotions, allowing them to: šŸŽØ Process what they can’t yet put into words— supporting emotional regulation and self-expression. šŸŽØ Build connection and social support, realizing they’re not alone in how they feel—fostering healing and a sense of belonging, even in the most difficult circumstances. šŸŽØ Cope with trauma and stressful memories—making it easier to understand and engage with their experiences at their own pace. This World Mental Health Day, take a moment to pause and take a glimpse into the drawings created by children in one of Save the Children’s child-friendly spaces in Gaza, part of our psychosocial support program. Their artwork reflects deep pain and loss ā¤ļøšŸ©¹ But beyond fear, these drawings reveal something more: HOPE. Dreams of rebuilding homes, becoming singers and writers, having food and water, being able to travel and receive an education…and living in freedom. We must prioritize children's mental health and well-being —especially for kids living in conflict zones. #WorldMentalHealthDay

  • Today's reports of an impending pause in hostilities gives hope for children and their families in GazašŸ•Æļø Ā  Children have had their childhoods shattered after two years of relentless war has left them facing famine, displacement, and violence. Ā  This agreement must finally be the turning point. Ā  ā¤ļøšŸ©¹ Gaza needs an urgent increase in aid to stop more deaths from starvation, disease and injuries. Ā  This is a crucial first step for children’s survival – but only if it is followed by a definitive and lasting ceasefire. Ā  Children must be protectedšŸ™ https://lnkd.in/g74Z8m5f

  • This October 9th, your giving can go further thanks to the power of Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)šŸ’™ Save the Children is proud to join DAF Day—a celebration of one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy, brought together by Chariot. New to DAFs? Think of them as a 401(k) for your charitable giving—a simple, tax-smart way to invest in the causes you care about most, like ensuring every child has the chance to thrive. Here’s why DAFs are a powerful tool for donors and nonprofits šŸ’« āœ… Tax-efficient giving: contribute cash, stocks, or other assets and receive an immediate tax deduction. Your donation can grow tax-free until you’re ready to give to a nonprofit. āœ… Strategic philanthropy: DAFs give donors time to decide which organizations to support, allowing for more thoughtful and impactful giving—while simultaneously enabling nonprofits like Save the Children to plan ahead with reliable and sustained funding. āœ… Rapid response: DAFs often promote ongoing charitable engagement and long-term relationships, as donors can set up recurring gifts or quickly respond to emerging needs, like when disaster strikes. DAFs currently hold billions of dollars already committed to charitable giving but not yet making an impactšŸ’” This #DAFday is a call to action—be a part of the movement to unlock the potential of DAFs and drive lasting change for kids in the U.S and around the world. • No child should have to bear the weight of war. Two years ago, at least 39 Israeli children were killed in the October 7 attacks. Since then, the toll of war has only grown more dire—with over 20,000 Palestinian children killed in Gaza. This is one of the world’s most complex and deadly humanitarian crises, especially for children. We urgently call for a definitive ceasefire—to protect the lives of all children, ensure the return of hostages, and allow the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance to reach those who need it most. Children deserve safety, dignity, and peace.
