Manny Lopez is 85 years old and still going strong. For 35 years, he’s been painting transformers at SCE. These machines help power homes and businesses across our communities. Manny didn’t always paint. He was an accountant in Guatemala before moving to the U.S. in 1967. He joined SCE in 1983 and worked hard to become a full-time employee. He’s proud of his work and loves helping his team stay safe. Today, Manny mentors new painters, teaching them how to do the job with precision and care. Next year, Manny will retire to spend more time with his family. “This is the best job I ever had,” Manny said. Read his full story: https://lnkd.in/gU8mEh79

Residents in the Kernville area have been experiencing more frequent power shutoffs during high fire risk weather, but crews are hard at work. They’ve been upgrading miles and miles of equipment — replacing bare wire with more resilient coated wire — which helps reduce the risk of wildfire and raises the threshold for windspeeds before Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are needed. Southern California Edison (SCE) reposted this
All of us at Edison International and Southern California Edison (SCE) continue to keep top of mind — and close to heart — those impacted by January’s wildfires. Every day, we find inspiration from the resilience of these community members. One of the most meaningful things we can do is to keep listening to those who were impacted. This is especially important as SCE shares more details about its Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program, which will provide direct payments and fair, fast resolutions to eligible community members and businesses directly impacted by the Eaton Fire. Today, SCE shared information about how the program will work and announced four upcoming workshops to gather input from community members about the program’s design. We want to hear from you. I am thankful to Ken Feinberg and Camille Biros, designers of the 9/11 fund and many other compensation programs supporting individuals impacted by major events, for their ongoing help. Their expertise has been invaluable. We’re also grateful to everyone who has helped SCE design the program, including Altadena residents. Edison continues to stand by the communities where we live, work and serve as they rebuild stronger. https://lnkd.in/g4VbVVHc

Protecting communities from wildfires through safer infrastructure. Our crews are moving overhead electrical equipment underground in high fire risk areas. This requires easements — or customer permission — to access property for the installation and future maintenance on equipment. Hear from Genevieve Cross, SCE senior project manager, and a resident going through the process. https://on.sce.com/46nQiPb

When a fire threatened the community of an SCE engineer, he and his family evacuated, unsure if they’d ever see their home again. When they returned days later, their house was still standing. He says that wasn’t random – it was the result of intentional home hardening, including ember-resistant attic screens, tree maintenance and gas safety. Learn more about wildfire-resistant building practices that can help create more resilient, energy-efficient homes. https://lnkd.in/dn-ArejJ
