I didn’t expect a trip to London to change how I think about AI and craftsmanship, but it did. My wife and I just got back from London for our anniversary, and one thing really stood out to me: the focus on quality. Everywhere we went, from restaurants to our hotel, there was a level of craftsmanship that you could feel. Even the plumbing was built with care. It made me realize how often we trade quality for speed here in the U.S. We move fast and innovate quickly, but sometimes that comes at a cost. In my work at Scout, I try to keep quality at the center, especially since we’re using AI for proposal writing. The goal isn’t to have AI do the thinking for us—it’s to free up time so we can focus on the parts that really need human insight. The best proposals start with thoughtful (human) ideas, then use AI to handle the busywork. That’s how we keep the craftsmanship in what we create. We can often tell when a piece of writing came from an AI—the symmetry, the perfect pacing, even those em dashes that show up everywhere (even here…ha!). Congratulations to Absco Therapeutics on their awarded NIH SBIR Phase I application! 👏 In this SBIR Phase I project, AbscoTx will be developing a new treatment system that delivers cancer drugs directly into solid tumors using a special injectable gel. The goal is to boost the body’s immune response against hard-to-treat cancers like colorectal cancer, while reducing side effects by keeping the medicine concentrated at the tumor site.
