  • After giving birth to her son, Olivia Smoak experienced a life-threatening amniotic fluid embolism (AFE). She was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in Scripps' specially equipped ambulance with ECMO – an advanced life support system that temporarily takes over function of the heart and lungs – until she arrived at the hospital, where Scripps doctors provided lifesaving treatment. “When we can use ECMO to stabilize a patient, it gives us time to find and treat the underlying condition,” says Ayana BoydKing, DO, pulmonologist and critical care physician at Scripps Clinic. Thanks to Scripps’ advanced care capabilities and the expertise of her medical team, Olivia made a full recovery. Today, she’s turning her experience into purpose and hopes to join Scripps as a nurse practitioner. Learn more about her story here: www.scripps.org/8018li

  • Case managers are the connectors of our health care system. They help patients navigate complex systems, ensure smooth transitions of care and advocate for the best possible outcomes. Whether it's coordinating treatments, arranging home care or helping patients access vital resources, they are there every step of the way to make sure patients don't have to to face their health journey alone. Thank you to our incredible case management team for making a difference in every patient’s journey. #CaseManagementWeek

  • Long before a patient enters the operating room, sterile processing teams are already at work. They clean, inspect, assemble and sterilize the instruments that surgeons and care teams rely on — ensuring that every tool is safe, functional and ready for use. Their precision protects patients from infection and supports every successful procedure. We honor sterile processing professionals for their expertise, tireless attention to detail and critical role in patient safety. #SterileProcessingWeek

  • Turning 26 can mean aging out of your parents health insurance, but you don’t have to go without coverage. “Choosing a health insurance provider and plan can be complex, so take time to understand what’s available and how well it meets your needs,” says Anil Keswani, MD, corporate senior vice president and chief medical and operations officer, ambulatory care at Scripps Health. • Health care security and safety teams do so much more than monitor entrances or respond to emergencies. They manage safety protocols, prevent workplace violence, handle crisis situations and ensure a secure environment where care can happen without disruption. We thank our security and safety professionals for protecting our facilities, staff, patients and every person who walks through our doors every single day. #HealthcareSecurityandSafetyWeek

  • Choosing health insurance isn’t one-size-fits-all. HMOs typically offer lower costs and coordinated care but require referrals and in-network providers. PPOs provide more flexibility and out-of-network options but often come with higher premiums. The best choice depends on your health needs, budget and how much flexibility you want in your care. • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Thomas Buchholz, MD, spoke with Fox 5 News about key risk factors, screening guidelines and treatment advances. “Catching cancer earlier via screening means you’ve hopefully caught it at a more curable stage of the disease,” Dr. Buchholz said. “More than 90 percent of people survive breast cancer and survival is highly dependent on the stage of the disease or detecting it early.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g2_GS_9e

  • When you visit a hospital or clinic, everything from surgical tools and medications to gloves, masks and IV fluids has to be available, sterile and ready to use. Health care supply chain teams make that possible. They are responsible for ordering, storing and delivering all the medical supplies and equipment that doctors, nurses and other health care workers rely on every day. Their work directly impacts patient care, safety and hospital efficiency. Thank you all for your work and essential contributions to Scripps. #HealthCareSupplyChainWeek
